Text based therapy?

Hello everyone, I'm looking into starting therapy and was wondering what the consensus is on text-based therapy vs traditional therapy? I'm thinking I want to do text-based but am not sure if it's on the same level as traditional yet.

I did text based for 4 years while I was in college. It worked well because I was also working two jobs and had an overall busy lifestyle. I would basically send long ass messages about whatever's going on and she would reply within a few days.

There's also kinds where you can do text based sessions I think, so like real time back and forth instead of writing a bunch and waiting a bit for a reply. I haven't tried that before.

Now I'm back to in-person therapy. I think in person/telehealth with video is much much better if you have like trauma to work through. That's why I made the switch. Text based was good to keep me stable while a lot of shit was going on. In person is now good to finally work through my deeper issues and actually heal.

So yeah it will vary a lot by person and by issue. It could be effective for you, or it could be not enough.
