Anyone never feel good enough?

I feel like I’m going through a Fitzgerald-like state of writing abyss.

I feel like sometimes I’m not meant to be a writer / am terrified of picking up a pen and going again.

I even stray away from reading to stop the inspiration coming to mind to pick up and start again & it kills me.

Anyone else ever feel like this?

Or have tips to combat it?

Would be much appreciated

Thanks

Omg, I feel like this CONSTANTLY!!! I even try to set goals for myself to just do short stories for myself...but then I want to share them... But I know what I really need to be sharing/working is my online series, but whenever I read over it for editing I just don't feel like it's up to par. And I want to work on it, but like you said, it just doesn't feel good enough. So I avoid writing and do other things. It's a cruel vicious cycle.

I'm not exactly sure how to break it though, I'd like some ideas myself. I guess another think that holds me back is a fear of harsh criticism. I can take a little, but anything really harsh would just constantly eat away at me.

You're not the only one, don't worry. I think it's common for creators to get this way and almost trick themselves into thinking they don't have it in them to make something as profound (or whatever) as last time. Or not. But that's just how I feel. It usually helps me to just pick up a pen and start writing what's actually going through my mind, I have the tendency to push away the first thoughts because I assume they're shit. But you gotta just get them out however ridiculous they seem in the moment. You could even just write about the fact that you can't write. Idk if that helps. Just let your brain barf all over the page. That's all I got, and from one stuck writer to another, good luck.

Yes, there will be times when you feel like everything is pointless and all your work less than spectacular. I gave up writing for a very long time and only recently got back into it when I watched other people live out the dreams that I wanted for myself. It was this yearning that allowed me to make a choice. Do I keep moving forward even though it's tough, or do I stay stagnant?

On a more practical note, write constantly. All writing is practice, and no one gets better by not trying. Even if it hurts. Even if its hard. Even if you don't feel good enough. Write because you are a writer, and keep building that writing habit until you become better. I think that you can be a really great writer. Don't give up.

Write about it.

That's actually everyone. The secret is ignoring it

I read an interesting article once that I’ll paraphrase.

The author said he knew two writers. One was a FANTASTIC writer who had nothing published.

The other was a mediocre writer who had a ton of published works.

The difference was, the fantastic writer never felt her work was good enough, so she didn’t complete it, or didn’t submit it for publishing.

The point is, you are your biggest critic. Yes, be critical, but not too critical.

Write. Let others see it. Rewrite it. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be good.

All the time but then I remember that professional writers wrote movies like Sharknado and got paid for it so anything I do can't be much worse 😁

Dude I feel like that too. I think that means we're always looking to improve. Doesn't mean we're no good, means we've not yet reached our full potential. KEEP WRITING!

Something that helps is going 'whelp, it might be trash but I'll enjoy writing it'. Another thing is I watch a youtuber who reviews atrocious books that have been published. I mean God awful! And it helps cause if they can publish that, I can at least write mine.
