Grief

The scent of you still lingers on my scarf,

Through summer, spring, and winter, it endures.

That silhouette just off the coast is yours,

I lie forsaken, beached upon the wharf.

The hope of your return consumes my soul.

Awake, in bed I shake, though all have slept,

And weave a rag to wipe the salt I wept.

The shattered vessel hunts what once was whole.

The gentle wind who guides the lowly kite,

The genial soil who guards the lonely tree.

The grave who gave me shelter, and respite,

The dead who stayed in living memory.

I'll flee with you towards the starless night,

And be with you for all eternity.
