I seriously hope there is no Air Bud-esque "There's no rule saying girls can't play on the team" as the series will totally jump the shark. But would love to see her as either just a person in town that helps Ted put things in perspective or at most a coach or some sort of team employee. Maybe have a moment like "yeah I love soccer but marketing is my true calling" kind of thing, just to turn expectations on their head a bit. Or maybe it's a setup to a season 3 where he coaches a women's team. Lots of directions that could be taken.

Well, it's a Bill Lawrence show, who has never written women well (e.g. Cougar Town), so I doubt this will ever happen, but why would having a woman play on the team make the show jump the shark?

You’re probably right about Bill but come on now this show has 2 amazing female characters

Postcardtoalake•

They’re okay, but they are nowhere near “amazing.” For amazing women characters, see shows written BY women, like “little birds” (also with Juno Temple), GLOW, Sharp Objects, Good Girls Revolt, Pen15, One Mississippi, etc.

Aw man maybe it’s just cause I love the show so much but I find pretty much every main character to be amazing, keeley and Rebecca included. Haven’t seen any of those other shows except GLOW but yeah that was a damn good show.

Also honorably mention to Leslie Knope

I assume mostly because it's a men's football league. This show is pretty grounded and even the most ardent feminist would be hard pressed to make the "a young girl should play in a men's football league" argument.

I would love to see him coach a women's team! I'm counting down the days to Women's World Cup 2023 in Aus/NZ

Season 2 story arcs I want in addition to this one:

  • Roy finding his post-football career

  • Beard’s backstory

  • Higgins goes to work for Rupert as an undercover spy for Rebecca EDIT: and develops a (protective) fondness for Bex and tries to help her avoid Rebecca’s fate (Higgins is the heart of the series, don’t @ me)

  • Nate gets a girlfriend EDIT: WHAT IF SHANNON AND NATE GO OUT OMG I WOULD DIE as long as this is an age appropriate possibility

40

Or alternatively Roy can pull a Tom Brady and keep playing till he’s 75 and dies of cardiac arrest right before he takes a corner kick in the 72nd minute of a fa cup game against bolton

Bad Prediction: By the end of the series, she'll be seen on a date with the "Can I get an Us-ie?" goofball.

I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen, but I also sincerely hope we haven’t seen the last of that posh twat and his phone

I adored how he book-ended the series like that. Props to that actor!

Maybe she will be a skills coach or something. Or she could just be who she is now, a football enthusiast who he gels with in town.

b_dills•

Lol she’s a school kid who is good at soccer (how many of those exist in England?). Why the hell would they hire her as a skills coach for Premiere league professionals? 😂

Bernchi•

Nate’s the waterboy and they let him draw up plays.

Beats me. I was just spitballing ideas.

I expect there to be a scene where she tells off the three hooligan fans at the pub, and then that one gentle giant is genuinely apologetic for his idiot friends

21

Paul! Paul is the best

13
angelsfan0055•

lol i love the hooligans. they're such an added layer of the show that makes it even better

9
Leftbrownie•

Nah she shouldn't be on the team. Just let him keep contact with her and maybe get to know each other a bit better, or not. We already have a lot of characters

11
TboxLiveOP•

Yeah I don’t think she’ll be on the team, but she shows up enough that they have to do something with her character. I just don’t know what they’ll do

7
coolcoolcool485•

I kind of agree with this. Scrubs did this with a lot of recurring, familiar characters that they didn't necessarily flesh out.

2
Cletus1923•

Don’t many of these Premier league clubs have women’s’ teams? Maybe she’s the first member of Richmond’s Lady Greyhounds?

9
hogwartstrekkie•

Yep, that's accurate. The FA Women's Super League (FA WSL) and the FA Women's Championship are the equivalent leagues.

7

Possibly bring in a female coach/love interest that eventually leads to the Ted/Rebecca relationship

3
hogwartstrekkie•

I think (and hope) we'll see her continue to be part of the outside-the-club contingent of characters that exist in Ted's orbit to provide perspective, like the pub lads and Mae.

7
flyingnomad•

Was honestly convinced he’d put her in the team after seeing her in the first episode.

6
Marekexp•

Did you really think that he'd put some young girl without professional training into the Premier League men-only team?

22

Only if she believes in herself!

One of the elements that elevates Ted Lasso is how threads are laid down and picked up later:

  • Roy holding Sam Obisanya down to work the crowd and, in the last episode, Sam holding Roy down to hear the crowd's appreciation.
  • Street performer from earlier episodes being the savior at the fundraising gala.
  • Tommy on the plane taking "us-ies" in the first episode and doing the same in the last episode.

I kept waiting for to have more importance. I was also surprised how Rojas became a non-factor after being introduced. We shall see what season two brings.

5

Yes! She’s bound to come back.
