Motivational mind games

I submitted this once already, but it got no responses, so trying again:

Every time I work out I feel great. By the first work set of squats, after my warm ups, I am into it and loving it.

... yet every time it is a battle of will power to just get in a room with weights and start.

So why is that? Why is it that something that feels so good is so hard to start? It is some evolutionary survival conservation of energy thing?

Or is it just that inertia is a bitch?

So far my best strategy to overcome this has been pitting one form of laziness against another. I will force myself to either work out or work on business stuff. Working out usually wins.

Anyone else found effective mind tricks to overcome a lazy nature?

everyone is different

me for example: i love going to the gym, so much that i get excited and have trouble falling asleep the night before (i work out first thing in the morning)

can't really suggest any "mind tricks," I just think about how happy i am/will be with the end result

Were you always that way? Or did it come with time?

I am 29, just started getting in shape about 2 years ago and have only been doing starting strength consistently for about 6 months. I keep thinking the motivation thing will change eventually, but it hasn't

i've been like this since i got into lifting 3 years ago, although at first i was working out for pure aesthetic reasons, so trying to get a nice body was my motivation. since then i've shifted to lifting as a way of staying healthy. can't really say what it is exactly that gives me the "push" now.

my advice would be to focus on the reason you're going to the gym in the first place

Yeah, I love it. Still not enough to make it an easy battle of will for me, but this is definitely the right direction.
