Oh for fuck’s sake. Are both Dakotas going to legalize recreational cannabis before Minnesota does?
South Dakota voted it in, but our gov Noem is fighting it, doesn’t look like South Dakota will have it legal anytime soon.
I thought this as well but the Senate moved a bill forward yesterday as well..."just in case the court challenges to the amendment fail". At least the constitution legally binds them to do something before July 1st and the legislators that gave interviews spoke to their constituents voting for it so they felt an obligation to act on the will of the people.
This is what I'm saying! At least there's a bill working through the MN house right now. Hopefully it at least get to the floor in the Senate. I'd like to see an up or down vote so we know who to boot next round.
Last I heard it passed the house. But our local resident asshat Paul Gazelka has been adamant that it’ll never pass the state senate
Do you know if he can pull a Moscow Mitch and bury it before a vote?
Do you know if he can pull a Moscow Mitch and bury it before a vote?
I don't think they even have to let it get to the floor.
Also a Minnesotan here!
I know a state pro-weed veteran group spoke before congress recently advocation for the legislation.
As a stoner, I’m fucking tired of all these states legalizing pot before my own. Please, I will happily pay taxes on weed.

It will depend on the South Dakota Supreme Court whether we get recreational legalized. Oh and don't forget that South Dakota is paying the lawyers challenging the amendment and the AG (who killed a man and will suffer no real consequences) said their office is not going to appeal. So it is left up to private groups to carry the lawsuit
Probably, our state is fucked too. The early entrants in the MM side in MN are actively lobbying to prevent recreational from being passed as they currently have a monopoly in the industry within the state. As soon as recreational gets passed they lose their control.
A big “fuck you” to Kristi Noem for trying to deny the will of the people
I don't get what she thinks they're doing down there in South Dakota. It was on the ballot and a majority voted to approve it. This BS about it costing the state a bunch of money and increasing law enforcement needs just needs to go away. If anything it'll be the opposite!
It would affect her and her cronies business interests. So suddenly its unconstitutional.
How many amendments have been passed that are right-wing funded that "affect more than one specific area?" A fucking lot. Now one they don't agree with gets voted in (by more people than it took to make Noem governor btw) and all the sudden the state constitution cannot be altered in any way, shape, or form that might "affect more than one thing."
Welcome to America. Democracy is a joke.
Unless the feds stand up for SD voters (unlikely, given the "substance" in question is federally illegal still) then this is what you can expect from fascist "conservative" state governments from now on.
In fact, in SD alone its already happened twice before. Thats right. Two things prior to this were voted for by the people, then stricken down by hand picked judges.
It would affect her and her cronies business interests. So suddenly its unconstitutional.
How so? I'm genuinely interested in this angle.
Her family owns crop insurance businesses. Marijuana can't be insured currently.
Farmers would have a cheap, easy to grow crop they could rely on year round that Noem and Co. can't siphon money off of.
Not to mention the police force in SD makes a ton of money busting pot crimes and the prison industry then profits off the unnecessary incarceration of civilians. Guess who has ties to both? Governor "So Much Freedom" Noem.
Right??
Yeah baby!
Not that great. No home growing and they can track how much you buy. also can only buy from state run institutions and there are like 6-7 in the whole state.
Baby steps are still steps, though.
They are only doing this because there will be a peoples amendment next election to make it legal and if they pass something like this it will prevent that bill from being voted on.
Im from this state. They will pass this shitty bill then amend it to death in the coming years to the point where it will be technically legal but have so many hurdles and stuff in place which will make pot impossible to get or due business in.
Utah did something similar after their medical marijuana ballot initiative passed. The legislature stepped in to make their own watered-down, Mormon-friendly medical marijuana program.
The more states that legalize in any form helps pressure congress to drop the federal law.
Goddamn it connecticut, get your shit together!
We will not get grow rights in CT either
Don't worry, Illinois doesn't have grow rights either (unless you have a medicinal card).
But let's be honest, you can easily obtain good seeds since cannabis is legal, and grow a plant in your basement or bedroom or whatever. As long as you don't plop it in your front room window, you'd be fine.
As I recall the penalty in Illinois for growing is a small fine.
Yeah, no grow rights unless you have medicinal card. IIRC the fine is $100. But again, police wouldn't know unless you're growing it on your stoop.
(Also from CT) CT needs to realize how much tax revenue is going out the door to MA. The cannabis tax is ridiculous in MA, but it still beats getting weed the non legal way.
I actually think Jersey legalizing will put more pressure on CT. For at least half of the state, MA is just over an hour drive. Now the other half of the state has the same hour drive but to Jersey. Even tho we aren’t technically touching Jersey, we basically are. someone from Fairfield county probably won’t drive to MA but surely would drive to jersey for legal weed now.
It’s all so simple CT, cmon and take my money
Cries in Kansan
No kidding. TIL Kansas is behind North Dakota. North Dakota.... We're one of only THREE states where marijuana is completely illegal.

We have a Democrat for governor and she's "considering, maybe, kind of" medical. It's super dumb.
If you factor in states like IN where CBD is the only legal thing medically or otherwise it’s more like a dozen. But yah - there is a green wave slowly making its way across the country.
CBD just became legal in Kansas in 2019. It's insane, because it's almost as expensive as weed is in legal states. I decided to try a 30 day bottle of 25mg pills. $75. Do you know how much weed I can get for $75?
Anyone willing to live in North Dakota should be given free marijuana provided by the state.
Take that South Dakota
How will Governor Pete Ricketts of Nebraska stop this?
Wasn’t it them that just banned mask mandates? You’re a weird state ND!
They are going full libertarian
Isn’t North Dakota the state where that judge just recently tried to shoot it down? Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but like I said then, it’s a crazy hill to die on when it is clear that this is what’s going to happen anyways.
That was South Dakota. Yeah, it's a very strange hill to die on especially when all of the evidence is pointing to less law enforcement involvement and more revenue.
When even rabid anti-maskers legalize, it is time to federally legalize.
I sincerely hope my neighbours to the south get to legally toke some dank shit after a hard days work because with the amount of bullshit you guys put up with this year you fucking deserve it!

Stoned Canadian
Hah, North Dakota is getting legal weed before TN. We are still decades behind everyone else.

If you were to come up with the worst legalization bill then this would be close. It’s anti consumer and will be a failure for years until it can get amended.
It's better than the alternative though, at least it seems like it.
It's a step forward, but I just find it ridiculous that they think this is a good bill.

Is delta 8 legal in all 50 states?
Can we just make it federally legal already? Pretty much no one is opposed to it anymore

"Idaho, more than just potatoes"
"Racism, incarceration, white supremacists....Idaho as it all!"
That’s about all it has.
More like, "Idaho, ONLY potatoes."
Ok, no one that matters cares
I have liberal/left friends in Idaho who very much matter, and it's a shame that their voices will never be heard.
Idahoan here. If it makes you guys feel any better, 2/3 of this state want the shit legalized already too!
We just have shitty right wings leaders who won’t let go of their boomer beliefs.

Texas would like a word. The constituents here are overwhelmingly for it. Our elected officials have said it will never be legal as long as they are in power for some reason. dan Patrick needs to go. he is the most powerful politician in Texas, as Lt gov gets to say what gets voted in in the senate and not. As long as he has a financial reason (and he does) for it to stay illegal he will never let it get voted on. We need a blue wave in those 3 top seats now more than ever if we want to see progress on the state of Texas.
Imagine if they did what Oklahoma did and put it to the vote of the people...
Their elected officials were 100% against it, people wanted it and the fucking people won.
Exactly correct and the obligatory FUCK DAN PATRICK
Oklahoma may potentially be legalizing medical for everyone, even if you’re a non-resident.
Dude I know. I never thought I’d be jealous of that state but here I am. I would bet my IRA that WinStar gets into the weed game if that happens... it’s like 5 minutes over the border from Texas and one of the largest casinos in the world...
Kinda funny Texas refuses to legalize any form of gambling here but they can shove advertisements down your throat via the radio. I won’t be surprised when we get the weed advertisements next
Its a steep entry fee where I don’t think its quite that simple, and there’s a two week wait. Still for actual medical needs, like people with issues that Texas refuses to cover like PTSD, depression, sleep apnea, pain, et al, people will line up for this.
Its about to turn the TX/OK into the most porous drug smuggling border in the state.
Nebraska is. Here’s a very recent spout of verbal diarrhea on the subject from Ricketts:
https://governor.nebraska.gov/press/marijuana-clear-and-present-danger
Holy shit. That reads like it came out of REEFER MADNESS!!! Nebraska is such a shitty place to live (source: lived in NE).
Yeah, I’m gonna need him to cite some sources for those outrageous claims he’s spouting.
That’s the spirit!
Too many will eat this up without even questioning it.
When the fuck can we rid ourselves of Caillou
Only the over 80 crowd.
