I built an interactive SQL tutorial for junior engineers to learn SQL

Hi,

I am in tech for 12 years now and have been mentoring a lot of people during the last 5 years (primarily in backend and SQL). So I have figured the best way to learn SQL is to solve SQL tasks and learn by doing. I created an interactive SQL tutorial where you learn and improve your skills by having hands-on experience in SQL. Just check this out: interactivesql.com

I would appreciate any feedback about the tutorial from people who are learning SQL now or who want to start.

Apologies if it is not allowed to self-promote myself here but I wanted to spread the word and help beginners in this. Looking forward to any feedback about the course.

Hi there, this looks great. Could u give me a little advice? I currently and have done for 20 years work in IT Support in 1st 2nd and some 3rd line. I currently manage a very busy support team in an enterprise environment.

I know virtually nothing about sql but have recently seen a post come up a few times that is in data base admin. I decided one night to throw a form in and was honest about my experience but hoped as they were unable to fill the post they might work with me as ive tons of technical experience and am hardworking and know the team and business well. While i got rejected i did get a call from the manager asking if i was truly interested she would try to organise some experience on the fly. So what I'm wondering is would this course be something a ture beginner could reasonably work on to get up too speed?

Hi,

Thanks for checking my website. Firs of all I understand now what kind of questions was not covered on my website which is if the website is good for a fresh student.

For your situation where you seek a sql admin role my website would not help you much. Sql administrators are people who deal with the database on a “physical” (installations, support, backup, networking) and “logical” (permissions, user groups, perf monitoring, etc) layers.

My course is more about practicing SQL skills - writing queries, learning some constructs; all about solving some reporting tasks. In example: find all employees who joined last summer, and did not complete all trainings; calculate sales of all goods in category A, which were sold out every time they were listed on the website; find all companies manufacturing goods X for a certain time in the past; and more... I do too think this will help you gain some knowledge In administration. Plus a basic understanding of the language structure is required. Otherwise I should start my course from relational database basics which I was not planning to do at this time.

I hope I was able to answer your questions. Please let me know if you want me to give more details on a certain topic.
