Why are they so expensive?

So I wanna buy a fightstick (the qanba obsidian), but I can't help but wonder why they are so damn expensive. What in them is the pricey part? The individual sticks and buttons aren't that expensive by themselves, so is it the casing? The wiring?

in a quality diy build the two most expensive things are usually the case and the pcb.

price out a basic diy build (all sanwa, ps4 brook board, case, and wiring) and you'll see why they are expensive.

While volume drives some of the parts costs down for hori, qanba, etc. r&d, licensing, testing, are part of the costs as well.

thanks. I really want one, but with these kind of things its sometimes really hard to see if you get you moneys worth. I dont mind paying the price tho, and im really excited, I already bought it, now its just waiting for the mailman to come :)

This is one of the most expensive fightsticks on the market

The priciest part is probably all the R&D that goes into developing the enclosure. Gotta make it look nice as well as be ergonomic.

Edit: Also, the obsidian is well worth 200 dollars.

It's all because it's a niche market, Sony can design a PS5 controller and sell it for $70 because they are gonna make millions of them so they are able to lower costs. Designing a fightstick you have to charge a lot more because you aren't gonna be able to buy stuff in massive quantity and you have to make your money back on less units sold.

I bought my first fightstick used at $65.

First stick I got was a TE and it was filthy dirty and used with one of the side panels cracked n broken, so I took it completely apart cleaned everything nicely then little by little upgraded the internals. It works just as good as my now Obsidian Panthera ASP and V.S Stick!!! The nice shells are just preference at the end of the day, as long as you have decent parts your good.

I kinda get this, but the Obsidian just seems like a stick I can buy and use for many years, and never feel as if I have one that is unconfortable to use. It also just looks really nice lol. It just seems like the safe one to buy.

It is a wonderful stick and you’ll love it! It’s the perfect size and it’s sleek and sharp looking! Go for it then and you won’t regret it.

Oh boy wait until you want to start modding the stick, buttons, artwork, pcb, etc.

Then wanting to buy a Hitbox style controller because you feel it might be better for input than joystick etc.

Yeah this isn't a good rabbit hole to go down is it

It’s more than a peripheral if you treat it as a hobby

It depends on the person, I enjoy modding and playing. Trying to perfect not only my technique but hardware too is fun.

I mean stick and buttons alone are like $50 in parts. That’s not including the PCB (the board that handles communicating to the console or PC) which is officially licensed with Sony. That’s probably another $50 there.

So right now before manufacturing of the case and assembly we have $100 of a $200 price tag kind of accounted for. The stick is pretty reasonably priced for what you get.

I think they're pretty cheap considering what you're getting. Why does everyone think that in 2021, 200$ is still a lot of money? Try building one yourself and see what it would cost you. Not to mention the skill and time necessary to make one.

You don't have to get the expensive stuff because some pro player or friend said get this, this is the best.
You can always find a cheaper one, or build it yourself. If you are in a pinch, find a good cardboard box and buy diy parts from aliexpress.

this kinda advice just gives the people the idea that what they bought was a toy alone. It's like going to an arcade cab and all the parts are some knock-offs, it doesn't feel good to play on nor is it fun. Cheap sticks are nice for getting into sticks but seriously, a cardboard box with some shitty knock offs is just gonna make the guy think its all a meme

some people cannot afford 50 bucks, currency exchange rates kills us.

then play pad instead of wasting your money at all on low-quality parts that don't even add to the exp?

2
Hatebot66•

even my pad is a knock off, stop being a snob.

1
HogeHeerOP•

Yea, some cant but I saved up for like a year so I can afford it ;)

Same here, saving up for mayflash f300/500. I might get it in few months.

Yeah man seriously anything will work! And another thing is the stick won’t make you better because the price!! It takes a lot of practice and you can be good with anything.

maybe the production assembly isnt expensive but the mass shipping is and doing it without a assembly line really isnt as cost effective.
