Is it just me or does the Myanmar coup have CIA written all over it?

shitpost maybe :whatttt:

For one thing there's practically a total news blackout on western media. No talk of why its happening or the major payers involved just riot porn and random photos of protestors following vague death counts. There's no mention of the rohingya genocide compare that to the misinformation, pearl clutching, and exaggerations involving uighurs. The military wants stronger ties to the US while the deposed president wanted stronger relationships with China. The IMF mysteriously dumped hundreds of millions into Myanmar right before the coup with no strings attached (because theyre always so charitable right?). Coup leaders claim voter fraud without evidence with the same zeal and tactics Trump did, practically parroting him. Total lack of RFA conspiracy theories, no stories of mass torture or tens of thousands being killed. Total lack of good guys vs bad guys narrative from the west its all very foggy and confusing. It reminds me alot of Iran in the 1950's

The west doesn't even need propaganda for this coup because the average westerner doesn't know whether Myanmar is the name of a food or a city in India. It would take the CIA much longer for them to set the backdrop to the propaganda than to just coup it silently and quickly.

The junta is the wild card in terms of geopolitics here. They have no ideology or allegiance. The west may try to paint things right now as West vs. China or democracy vs. dictatorship, but the truth was that the junta foolishly deciding to coup in the worst possible time to save their asses from impeding ICJ ruling and their vast domestic and foreign investments. It just plays right into US's hands who want to use this situation as a leverage to proxy attack China. Unfortunately most people here are geopolitical illiterate and thinks the whole world cares about them right now with standing against dictators like ours, China, Russia and other ASEAN countries (you can read more in my comment here).

Thanks for you consideration. We also do not know how things will play out. China is doing damage control (which is the best course imo) while the west is trying to paint a black and white narrative of a battle between democracy and dictatorship when it's muddy as fuck irl. The best thing we can do is just hope that it doesn't escalate into a full blown proxy war. You can read my comment here in this post for more info (since I don't want to type a lot again).

It always had CIA written all over it. It almost certainly is a US intervention.

My greatest fear is the proxy war since it will tear my country apart. However I don't think US is behind the junta. The junta being dumbasses deciding to coup in the worst time possible to save their sorry asses, just allowed US to leverage things into their advantage as a part of their New Cold War agenda imo. You can read more in my comment heresince I'm not eager to type everything out again.

Good point. I was thinking because I’m American. Here, who cares if it risks human life? There’s so much profit to be made! That’s American thinking right there. So I was figuring they might be behind the junta but you’re probably right.

I wish that US truly backs the junta lol. That would shut a lot of US worshippers here. But yeah, people here unfortunately still thinks US is the bastion of democracy and cares about them thanks to BBC, VOA and RFA (explained more in my linked comment) when US is just playing them for profits and will abandon them once we have outlived our usefulness. Even other ASEAN countries are starting to condemn the coup government for their dumb decision to coup at the worst possible time geopolitics wise, especially since US is rubbing hands to spread "democracy" and "human rights" in ASEAN for a long time. The coup in my country could become catalyst for series of color revolution attempts in ASEAN (although I don't think it will succeed due to weak contradictions in those countries) which can destabilize them badly. Future seems bleak.

You don’t even need them to support the junta, just tell people to have a brain and look at US history.

The media hyped it up as “If X wins, it’s China’s gain!” China China China, they’re trying to make it about a bigger game to keeping a perimeter around China, and if the US doesn’t do something then China wins (somehow). From what i heard, it’s the US trying to make it into a black and white situation between greater powers, when China is saying “Myanmar, you need to resolve this issue yourself. Whatever happens happens”. One is advocating jumping in and “saving” the day, while the other is saying “let’s all step back, this isn’t our business”.

Has the US jumped in? I’m not positive but i wouldn’t be surprised. Has the US thought about jumping in? Oh most definitely.

You got it correct in summarizing it. While China's approach sounds cruel and apathic, it's the best thing they can do right now: damage control. I wouldn't explain more since I don't want to type a lot again but you can read my comment here in this post.

Biden is yapping about le hooman rights and making that his “highest priority”. Won’t be surprised to see a military invasion by the US if the military turns even slightly to China.

You are correct with saying it's muddy and confusing. Here's what I wrote about our history and the lead up to the current situation. Basically since the independence, the country was in civil war thanks to foreign machinations and our national bourgeoisie governments never coming together. It led to the military growing in power and autonomy and they eventually couped in 1962 and established "socialism" (with junta characteristics) and became buddies with US who used Ne Win's government as a barrier to "Red Tide" of China and even sent CIA agents to help take out the communist stronghold in central Burma.

Once the Cold War ended, the West wanted the junta to open up Burma but they refused thus US punished the country through sanctions and propped up Aung San Su Kyi as the next coming of Christ. During that period the junta survived by becoming friends with China (which is where the current narrative among my people of "China backed the coup" because they saw China as basically saving the junta).

When the junta finally opened up in 2010 through "transition to democracy", Aung San Su Kyi also decided to work with the junta together looking for national reconciliation, while being neutral with both west and China. This is an interesting thing with all our governments. They all chose to be neutral foreign policy wise. Maybe because they know the country is located in geopolitical strategic location, meaning it's important to play as neutral as possible to keep our sovereignty.

ASSK not becoming a compradors like they wanted quite upsetted the west as we all saw in punishing her with suddenly bringing up Rohingya crisis in Rakhine (Arakan) State, which was also where China was building and economic zone curiously enough.

Throughout our history our only window to the outside world was BBC, VOA and RFA since the alternative is shitty state media. So most of the people here have this romanticized view of western democracy and while it has good intentions this also made them susceptible to western propaganda. I suggest you to read more in my article. I have already typed a lot already.

Edit: I also wanted to point out that our military junta has no ideology or alignment. They are neither pro-West, pro-China nor pro-ASEAN. They are using everyone as they need like sticking up to the West or skirting around India, China and ASEAN (through Thailand) while paddling xenophobic shit against them at the same time (read my article for more info) to confuse the people, dulling their critical thinking imo.

Myanmar looks like it could either turn into Syria 2 electric boogaloo or become a US puppet state or balkanise.

That's the worst case scenario for my people. But what can we do meaningfully now. The contradictions in my country has reached its boiling point. I don't want to type again so you ca read more in my comment here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Gs467MKh5U (Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw) CRPH's elected lawmakers who have been unable to take their seats in parliament following February 1st coup, has announced that it will be removing all ethnic armed organisation from the list of unlawful organisations and terrorist groups.

If the violence continues, it's a certainty armed ethnic groups will start shooting war with the Myanmar military.

I don't think so. The Myanmar military holds lots of political power and really doesn't need any help from the CIA to do something like this. They've been pulling stuff like this pretty consistently for the past ~30 years. In 1990, the military called a general election and basically cancelled the results after they lost. Since then Aung San Suu Kyi has been placed in and out of house arrest by the military, totaling ~15 years at this point.

Nyan4812too simple, sometimes naive :jiangwow:•

You are mostly correct. But I would like to point out something to correct. The junta is in power since 1962. They just keep changing their skins to survive in changing world order. Since it will take a long time to write, I'll link my comment in this post here.

Who really knows what is going on behind the scenes. One thing is certain. The CIA has assets in all sides causing conflict and chaos. In all the chaos, they will steer it to their objectives.

On the other hand, you have US publications like the NYT printing stories about how the protests against the coup are leading a feminist revolution, with lots of photos of protesters carrying signs in English and the ubiquitous Color Revolution Fist Icon.

As best as I can work out, the US wants chaos in Myanmar. It certainly puts the brakes on BRI projects, like new port facilities.

Best to avoid idle speculation. It's not marxist. You aren't going to figure out who's behind this from the comfort of your home. There's a famous saying on Twitter: "No investigation, no right to speak" - @Mao

If you really believe the military wants stronger ties to the US, then you've fallen to their propaganda. They want to escape from sanctions imposed by the west and they know that the US and the west don't like China so they're trying to make a move to pretend that they're anti-China and pro-west.
