Introverted

In a room filled with different stories

(Romantic, monotonous or complicated histories),

Laughs are heard, smiles are seen

Dreams are felt, a place I do not want to be in.

I know I am alone in this entangled crowd

And I am scared they will find my extroverted facade to be fraud.

But, when I sense the love and friendship around me,

I crave for someone, whose first priority I shall be.

Still, I will not answer to a hand stretched towards me.

I do not want to risk my hopes getting crushed, ruthlessly.

Let the pristine dream not be tarnished by reality.

I will be an introvert, living the dream within me.

I was easily transported to my room. A comfortable safe space with all the locks and barricades around me. Keeping me safe from the world yet a prisoner of myself. Scared to prick a finger, yet willing to starve to death.

I like how my imagination worked from the first line to the last. It's like a motion picture.

I found the message of your poem interesting, about an isolated person who longs for connection yet pushes people away out of fear of getting hurt. the last bit "living the dream within me" got to me, because it really sums up how much easier it is to fantasize about having meaningful relationships than it is to actually find them. when a poem is called "introverted" admittedly I'm half accepting an angsty poem about how much the narrator hates people (I mean, which is fine!) but this was kind of refreshing and relatable. I really like the imagery you created in words like "entangled crowed" and "tarnished by reality". for things to improve, there are places where I thought you "told" instead of "showed" if that makes sense. "And I am scared they will find my extroverted facade to be fraud" is not a bad line but it doesn't leave much to the imagination, there could be a more metaphorical way of putting this, like something about an extroverted facade starting to decay (idk just speaking from the top of my head). overall I liked this poem.

Yeah. I had written this a while ago. But yeah the show don't tell is something I am working on. I normally am good at writing dialogue, at least feel. So visualization is something I need to focus on more.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.
