Any places to work on/learn basic woodworking?

Hey, all. I'm an architecture student who recently moved to Toronto and am looking for a public workshop space where I would be able to learn some woodworking. At the moment I just want to make a basic crate to store vinyl records but I have no space to do it while living in an apartment. I have a feeling I'm out of luck because of COVID restrictions but wanted to ask anyways.

Try The Unplugged Workshop on Gerrard.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just gave them a call but unfortunately they only provide structured classes working with handtools rather than rental spaces. If it wasn't for work and budget limitations I would love to take a class there though!

I imagine most places won't be available (unless someone lets you use their private woodshop or something.

Toronto Tool Library has a makerspace with a woodshop, but i believe it's closed until the restrictions are lifted

Yeah thats what I figured. Toronto Tool Library seemed perfect and honestly the limited tool rental they're running at the moment would've been fine if I wasn't constrained to this apartment. My apartment actually has a workshop but access to it is closed due to a recent fire which is really unfortunate.

Yeah the TTL is a pretty sweet resource. The apartment/condo thing is the tough part, I have the same issue, there's a few small wood Projects i'd like to do, but pretty sure my girlfriend would kill me for sanding in the house, not to mention noise issues...

woah! that's a pretty cool amenity. Are they planning on reopening it?

It's coop housing for students so they have some pretty cool resources but the fire means we have to wait for tons of inspections and approvals before the public areas open, which unfortunately means I probably wont be able to get in before I move out as I'm 3 months into a 4 month work term.

huh thats cool! Sucks to hear you won't even get to utilize it though.

Toronto learn for life classes

I'd recommend this too but I think OP is looking for space/tool rental, not classes.

My mistake. They did say they wanted to "learn" in both title and body. From experience many of the classes such as metal work are predominantly folks doing independent work and do not include any formal lessons, but the class offers access to space, tools, and teacher support if needed.

He might be making a joke talking about his dick, unless you already knew that, then I'll leave you two to it.

Lmao that went right over my head but missing it probably gave me a bigger laugh than if I caught it straight away.
