Can I ask you how deep is your compost and do you plant the seed potatoes in the soil or just sitting on top of the soil?
The compost on top of my soil is about 4 inches or 10cm deep, I made slits with a trowel, which I widened with a dibber and pushed in the seed potatoes being careful not to damage the emerging shoots, some ended up deeper than others, I’ll post pics of their progress
I’m hoping to do no dig beds this year too, have you lined the bottoms with anything? Good luck with the spuds!
No, I changed my allotment to No Dig and didn’t have many weeds to start with, so I’ve added mushroom compost, horse manure, my own compost and leaf mulch on top of the soil. I did put cardboard on the grass paths and then covered in wood chips. One thing I will say is; you need a huge amount of compost, much more than you think
Cheers for the info. Our plot was weed central, we’ve finally got it all covered with weed fabric and now I’m contemplating cutting holes in it to put the beds on top. A couple of people have said about needing a lot of compost, I will bear that in mind ta!
