Call me dumb. But do they add and take the dirt away at different times of year? And howwwww that seems like soooo much work

This is their first time doing it but yes. They're scheduled to run the night race on the paved circuit later this year. I assume they're going to suck it up and take it elsewhere.

They have actually done this one before! Back in 2001, World of Outlaws raced on a dirt covered Bristol. That year, NASCAR raced twice on the normal pavement.

They converted it back in 2000-2001. The stop doing it because of the roads couldn't handle the process of unloading and loading the dirt onto the track.

That sounds like the Bristol i know lol. There's just back roads over by the track so not surprised that was the issue.

Mind-blowing. Somebody better film a time laps

They did a time lapse of covering it so I imagine they will for removal as well

iRacing: best we'll do is the same dirt that every track has

I remember when iRacing dirt was multi grove, and then they fucked it up with adding the cushion.

The dirt is multi groove now but the biggest problem is that when tracks dry out they can get unrealistically slick. It's like they forgot the whole process of the dirt taking on rubber when it dries out.

In the end we're all running the high line once the bottom starts to slick off. Track can't rubber up if the tires aren't wearing to lay down the rubber.

As an excavation estimator, this was cool to see.

On a related note Bristol dirt in the cup cars is terrible in iRacing after the updates. It was much better as they originally had it.

Why the hell did they still have dirt lying around from 20 years ago lol

I feel like they would be better off just building a dedicated Nascar Dirt track or using one of the local ones. I know for the marketing hype they had to use Bristol. Now if the sport ever got really popular again the grandstands would be needed. Awesome either way.
