Beware when juggling inventory by throwing stuff down chasms!

For the second time in less than 24 hours, I've had piece of equipment get destroyed by an explosive trap triggered by trowing the item over a chasm. Never happened to me before (I always considered that to be a pretty safe technique), but apparently it can happen: the item can fall on an explosive trap on the leve below, and it will trigger it, leading to its destruction if it's not robust enough (unique or upgraded item). Damn.

Eh, not the stupidest things I've done, although the first such case was with unidentified greaves of natures early on in a huntress game (was waiting for a scroll of remove curse before wearing them) —they would have really changed the game.

You juggle inventory only with items you want to sell. Not items you intend to use.

It might also trigger a fire trap (or plant) and cause scrolls to be burnt. That is what I fear more.

I've always wondered about potions... Will they break if I send them into a chasm?

And if an enemy that drops a potion for loot falls off a chasm (or dies floating over one), that potion can shatter as well. Sucks if it's a bat because you lost a health pot... REALLY sucks if it's a fire elemental and the next floor down is thick with vegetation

Does it notify you that a portion was broken?

Sometimes you can see the potion go flying with the enemy when it dies, but otherwise it doesn't notify you. Unless you're one floor above a boss and the potion that broke was one with an environmental effect--the instant you descend you'll hear the shattering sound and the effect will trigger.

So if on floor 19 you blasted a warlock off a bridge that was going to drop a potion of toxic gas and sniped a floating fire elemental that would have dropped a flame potion, your Dwarf King fight will begin with you descending into a flaming cloud of toxic gas. Fun!

Or as one poor guy posted earlier, paralysis and toxic gas waiting on the yogg floor to kill him
