i'm upset

HungLikeAnElf•

Thank you for the memories Mr Snake

52
guydude24•

Vrana was going to be my first jersey this season.

Tell me how to feel

51
HungLikeAnElf•

Mantha is pretty good. Still not a huge fan of the trade

23
Maybe_A_Doctor•

I think we won the trade. However I just got a Vrana jersey :(

Plus side, you may find one for cheaper now haha

17
Cannabis_Stocks•

Worth it, he played well during the Cup run so it’s a jersey that will always be relevant.

6
Maybe_A_Doctor•

i’m definitely happy to have the jersey, a good portion of my collection is players who aren’t on their team any longer

1
K-Kov815•

I was thinking about this. I can partially understand why they traded vrana, with a lack of interest. I just hope mantha will be able to fill the void.

3
RadioTree•

I got him on my reverse retro :(

9
yearightt•

I was SO close to getting him and got Wilson because I feared this would happen

6
doghairking•

If you bought from MSE or Fanatics you should have jersey assurance

2
RadioTree•

Grabbed it from CoolHockey, so maybe SOL. I definitely don't mind still rocking him but would've been great to keep it relative for as long as possible. Never would've imagine we'd move him any time soon

3
fatloui•

I feel like any player who was a factor in winning the Cup will be relevant for ever.

6
MCCapitalist•

I was waiting for our third jerseys to come back in stock to get a Vrana. I'm going to cry, come along.

4
[deleted]•

Never buy a jersey of someone who is in the last year of their contract

3
guydude24•

I agree but he felt like he was gonna be the next cap great.

frosty_biscuitsMay '21 Co-Luckiest Guesser•

Might get a discount? I don't know I'm looking for the silver lining.

1
defeatedc•

I’m gonna go die now

37
Head_of_Lettuce•

Holy fucking shit. This is a big one boys. Sorry to see Vrana go but he was extremely inconsistent and Mantha fits our identity, is a very good player, and is cost controlled for 3 more seasons beyond this year.

37
fulltonzeroOP•

Mantha is also inconsistent

14

i’m curious to see how he does on an organization that’s trying to win cups instead of trying to get out of the basement

12
Table_Coaster•

Red Wings have been in the basement and don't have good players. Mantha could be a 35 goal 60 point player for us and is locked in for 3 years whereas Vrana needs a new deal

3
yearightt•

but on the Red Wings...

attempts to make myself feel better intensify

2
6Plus6Equals1Dec '18 Luckiest Guesser•

so he fits our identity

1
redblade79•

Wings fan coming in peace: if this trade is true you’re getting a stud in Mantha. He’s a very streaky player but when he’s hot he’s on fire. I think he just needs a change of scenery. Hope he shovels some pucks in net for you guys!

34
E_to_the_RIK•

I hope so too! Don't be fooled by vranas poor numbers this year, he had some serious trouble adapting to our new system. He has an elite shot and elite speed and can definitely light the lamp 30 plus times a year. You guys got a really good player back

11
redblade79•

I’m really excited to see what he can do!

4
E_to_the_RIK•

Me too!

1
zachzsg•

If he ain’t scoring 30 on the caps he sure as hell isn’t with Detroit

1
E_to_the_RIK•

He probably would have had 30 last year if it weren't for the pandemic and he played limited minutes. He absolutely can score 30 for detroit or another team

2
MDSupreme•

One of the best wrist shots in the league, No joke

5
maveric101•

He’s a very streaky player but when he’s hot he’s on fire. I think he just needs a change of scenery.

Sounds kind of like Vrana. Maybe this will help both of them.

I'm still sad though :(

4
redblade79•

I think Mantha will thrive under you guys. He’s the type of player who is amazing when his confidence is up. But the wings have been playing like dogshit (expected because of the rebuild) and it has definitely affected him. He needs to be surrounded by winners. I’d love to see him win a cup with you guys!

6
DaniCapsFan•

Vrana is speedy but inconsistent. I hope he works out for you guys.

1
ManthonyMantha•

Guys... Mantha is amazing. Take care of him.

32
SoberEnAfrique•

Nice username.

Enjoy Jake, that guy's a magician

12
[deleted]•

Take care of Jake the Snake for us. He's got dazzling speed. We'll miss him. Hopefully we can get Mantha a cup

7
ManthonyMantha•

I hope so. I'd like to think Vrana can be great for Zadina's development too

3
JohnnyTitans99•

Watching this break on NHL Network, the commentators are BLOWN AWAY by this trade

30
CrunchyZebra•

In a positive or negative sort of way?

5
JohnnyTitans99•

Positive. Sorta compared him to Wilson.

19
CrunchyZebra•

Glad to hear that. I know Mantha is solid just wasn’t sure if we gave up too much (obviously had to move Paniks money so the 1st and 2nd sting but not as bad)

8
JohnnyTitans99•

I thought it was a 1&2 for this year. But ‘21 1st and ‘22 2nd

3
brady_t12•

IM CRYING

20
maveric101•
21
Cannabis_Stocks•

I love this. How am I just now seeing this?

2
maveric101•

Well, there were a lot of drunk Capitals clips flying around back then. Just missed one, I guess!

1
OverpassingSwedes•

NHL is getting smaller and faster so we trade our fastest player for a 6’5 235 lb winger

18
fulltonzeroOP•

And Panik

Full trade mantha for Vrana ,Panik,1st and 2nd

Wtf??

17

Fucking expensive trade. I hope Mantha does big things

3
robertito42•

Salary dump for two guys who weren't going to get to play in Lavy's system, but the 1 and 2 really hurt, but I do like Mantha?

1
dudesweetusername•

Sounds like Panik, Vrana and a 1st and 2nd

14
drunkstatistician•

Det's 2nd and our 1st (hopefully) aren't too far apart.

edit: nope, 2nd was ours too. source

7
dudesweetusername•

Yea I misunderstood first time I saw it. That makes more sense though. I'm optimistic about this move.

1
drunkstatistician•

Nope, the 2nd is ours too. :( I was wrong.

2
SFW19•

We get the 2nd I think

1†
Thiamine•

As much as I love Vrana, Mantha is a great player with upside. The 1st rounder stings though.

Edit: Oof, and a second round pick too

13
HowardBunnyColvin•

Sucks about V. Was hoping he would contribute more but he was kind of inconsistent

12
Grand-Moff-Larkin•

Wings fan here. Mantha has been my favorite player since Zetterberg retired. You'll love him. People talk about his size and shot, and both are great tools, but his passing is super underrated. He is super streaky, but on his good nights he reminds me a lot of Blake Wheeler. He also has some clutch plays in him and make a play when down with a few seconds left. You guys have Ovi for the shots, Backstrom/Kuznetsov for the passing and Wilson for the mean stuff, but Mantha will bump all that stuff up even more.

Here's a link of a gif of him whooping Sergachev. I can never find it on youtube but it should make you love him right away.

https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/dont-cross-check-anthony-mantha.2404719/

12
Maybe_A_Doctor•

FUCK ME. I love Vrana, just got his jersey. but Mantha is exciting.

I see why we got Raffl now if we’re trading out Panik

11
Dyne_Inferno•

Raffl will still be Taxi

2
Simmie58•

Won't he just be taking Paniks normal spot (3rd/4th line LW/RW)?

1
Dyne_Inferno•

Ovi - Kuzy - Wilson

Sheary - Backstrom - Mantha

Sprong - Eller - Oshie

Hathaway - Dowd - Hagelin

Like I said, Panik was taxi.

3
Simmie58•

Oh yeah, forgot Sprong took his place. But, still good to have some (cheaper) experienced depth heading into the playoffs.

1
truetotheblue2•

Panik is taxi squad so that doesn’t really matter. I just don’t understand why Lav hates Vrana so much that he’s sending him to Detroit.

11
strewnshank•

He's got that "Burky hustle" to him. I think Lavs wanted to see more efforts.

3
Joshottas•

Mantha is a HORSE. Might be a slight overpay, but im ok with trying to squeeze out as much as they can before the Ovechkin/Backstrom window closes.

Getting rid of the panik contract >>>

11
ranyong5407•

Holy crap. I was immediately upset...but it actually looks like a potentially great move. Mantha is a better player. Can't wait to see how this works out.

10
ranyong5407•

The other element to this is that Jakub Vrana is an RFA at the end of this year, and the way things have gone for him that could be a very difficult negaotiation. Mantha is 26 and signed to a good contract already. In the end it was a good trade.

14
ranyong5407•

And now after learning of the additional 1st and 2nd round picks I must ask....what the fuck just happened

3
SextonKilfoil•

YOU GOT YZER-MANNED 👏- 👏-👏👏👏

1
erevans444•

This is amazing. Vrana was still struggling a bit. He has potential and it’s gonna end up looking like Burk where he ends up playing way better with a new team, but don’t let that distract you from the fact that we got a 6’4 sniper. Mantha is phenomenal. I love this move. We need to win now and Vrana’s unfortunate inconsistency isn’t what we need right now.

9
SextonKilfoil•

Vrana was still struggling a bit. He has potential and it’s gonna end up looking like Burk where he ends up playing way better with a new team

Hoping it's like the Fabbri situation in St. Louis. Dude struggles to put up 7 points in 41 games across two injury plagued seasons and Yzerman trades a waiver-wire pickup tweener (de la Rose) for him. In the past two seasons in Detroit, Fabbri has put up a total of 49 points in 82 games.

If Vrana somehow hits 30 next season (if he's still around in Detroit), teams might think twice about sending Yzerman their projects.

1
erevans444•

It’s going to be just like Burakovsky. I don’t doubt that Vrana is going to tear it up for Detroit but we don’t have the time to wait for that. We need a guy now and Mantha is much more likely to get there.
