I disagree. The whitening system seems to be working just fine.

That’s the part that always gets me in these stories. It didn’t occur to any of you, at any point, even just a tiny bit, that this was a bad idea? How!?

Perhaps none of these 3 thought it unwise because the magazine readership would not think it unwise. Sad face.

I had a lecturer at college that spoke about Colgates failure to enter a far east asian market. I cant remember the exact country. Locals use a type of soft wood to brush their teeth, which would stain teeth yellowish. So the perception was that more yellow represented stronger teeth, and whiter was weaker. Colgate launched with billboard full of extra white teeth, and ended up not doing that well.

I've googled for this story, cant find anything, so not sure if the lecturer was trying to make a point or if this was a factual story. Anyway, interesting point on white teeth being a cultural thing.

Google "Pepsodent toothpaste in South East Asia", maybe it's the wrong story. I searched first for marketing fails and yellow teeth. That example was the closest to your story in my short search

I saw on Oprah there’s a whole country who celebrates women being fat enough to be considered extremely obese.

The men there think it’s incredibly sexy when a woman is more than just a little round and if I can’t lose my COVID chunk, I’m moving there and ordering all the pizza.

Their professional headshots aren’t much better—they literally all have tinsel (the stuff for Xmas trees) in their hair.
