Ha, thanks for the concise response. Educate me on why?

It's an ancient bike. You won't be happy with it. Frame geometry and coil spring at the back is a pile of crap. It'll be making weird noises, chain will be falling off all the time, brakes will need constant adjustment so they won't rub, etc. I wouldn't take it for free. Sorry if I sound like a biker snob, I'm really not one, but had experience with old bikes like this one.

I have an old trek y22 that is still super fun!! You need to approach these bikes differently.

All depends on the price and what u wanna use it for

I thought I posted it, but I must have messed it up. Guy wants $100.

I have a vintage hardtail I enjoy, I’d like to have a downhill option to try without blowing my wallet up until I’m sure I’ll stick with it.

I mean if it’s local and u can test ride it to make sure it shifts decent and the brakes and everything work I would go for it

It's worth s $100

For $100? Sure but don’t expect much.

That looks like a diamondback from the walmart years. Very sketchy, even for cheap. My uncle had one with like an 80 degree head angle. It would kick you over the bars on flat ground if you looked at it funny.

Apparently they went for $800-1200...twenty years ago. Lots of great reviews, also from years ago. No idea of maintenance or anything, I think I’m going to leave this one alone.

Yeah, if you're going that far back, you want absolute top of the line parts- XT at least, Fox suspension, Mavic wheels, that sort of thing. And a hardtail. Getting shocks rebuilt from that far back is all but impossible. I still ride my Ellsworth from that era, but it's been updated with a newer fork, a dropper and a 1x drivetrain. Rides great, but it was a team-level race bike in its day. Entry level from then is all but unrideable now.

Makes sense, thanks.

I wouldn’t get for many reasons but the interrupted seat tube is the biggest reason, such a terrible design.

1
JorisSneagle•

Why is the interrupted seat tube supposed to be a bad design. Many DH bikes still use it like the v10

No. I agree with pogacsa_79 100%.

I mean, if you can't afford to spend more than 100 on an MTB, then definitely go for it

1
NashCopOP•

Nah, it’s off the list. I can afford more than that, I just wondered if I’d stumbled on a bargain.
