Bit of Bizarre Geometry in the College of Winterhold

So, think about entering the Hall of the Elements in the College of Winterhold. You have two doors, one on your right and one on your left. The one to the left takes you to the Arch-Mage's quarters, and the one on the right to the Arcanaeum. If you go in either door you go up one flight of stairs which is comprised of two sets of stairs that are about the height of the player with a u-turn in the middle. If you go up to the Arch-Mage's quarters, you can go down one flight of stairs of about the same height to the Arcanaeum, and down one more flight of stairs to the Hall of the Elements. So, you can follow a path that goes up one flight and down two flights. Of course, you can follow the path the other way and go up two and down one.

Screenshots I took (if using tcl to see angles of areas you're not really supposed to bothers you, don't look). The first is of the Arcanaeum; the door on top with the quest marker is the Arch-Mage's quarters, the bottom one is the entrance, and the one in the background to the left leads outside. The second is from the Arch-Mage's quarters; the door with the marker goes to the entrance, and the other to the arcanaeum. The second image makes it look like the Arcanaeum and the entrance to the Hall of the Elements occupy the same space.

So, am I misinterpreting something, or is there some messed up geometry in the College? Also, if the geometry is messed up, it's perfectly fine to just say magic did it, but the geometry is still off. I'm aware the Arch-Mage's quarters are considered the third floor, I'm just pointing out that the arrangement in the game doesn't represent that (thanks for the pointing this out abdias2).

Edits: Took screenshots to replace redundant description. I need to lay off the skooma. Acknowledged Arch-mage's quarters as 3rd floor.
