Anyone else getting excited watching the Yankees climb the AL East standings?

HEAR ME OUT before you freak because obviously fuck the Yankees and it was really great watching them scuffle along for two weeks. BUT I love when we're competitive with them. I love beating the Yankees, but I love it most when the games really matter. I'll happily take a tight division race with great baseball down the stretch.

I get the point you’re trying to make... but no. I would much rather have Yankee Stadium burn to the ground and have Gerrit Cole realize he secretly always wanted to be an artist and immediately retire and do that instead, and for Stanton and Judge to be cast as handsome Squidward and Butthead in the live action remakes of Spongebob and Beavis and Butthead respectively. And I want the rest of them to be traded to the Cleveland Browns so that Steinbrenner Jr can fund a shitty Broadway musical.

Then I’ll be happy.

For a second I thought you were suggesting a Squidward and Butthead mash-up movie, and I would totally be down with that.

Red Sox/Yankees playing meaningful games against each other is good for baseball. I like it as long as we come out on top in the end.

When I was a kid, I was more of a fan of players than teams. Loved watching Mike Alstott truck the hell out of ppl and liked the uniforms tbh. Was a big Nomar fan and just liked how the Sox always looked like they were having fun. Grew up liking the Bulls and Lakers because of MJ/Kobe, but switched to NY when Melo went there. I'm from upstate NY so I'm used to having to explain myself haha.

As a fan of the Bucs, Sox, and Mavs I have to say I like the wide team selection. And all smack talk aside, I love watching Randle this year, that man can ball.

No, my blood pressure can’t take it.

It's honestly more fun to kick them while they're down after they just spent an obscene amount of money in the offseason to buy another World Series, especially with spending $36M/yr on a pitcher who's well-known to be doctoring balls, and $29M/yr on the King of the K, and $15M on a wifebeater. Seeing them blow their money as the second-highest payroll in baseball with nothing to show for it is way better. They're always going to think they're competing for the WS, and getting a much-needed dose of reality is better than anything.

The Blue Jays also spent a ton tooling up to chase the division title and the Rays went to the World Series last year. There's plenty of contention in the AL East.

I agree that it’s hilarious to watch them struggle in this particular way, and also yes there is plenty of competition in the East. At the same time, it’s not the same as going head to head with the fucking Yankees all summer. I guess the Sox fan in me wants to see them flounder, but the baseball fan in me wants to see us go back and forth.

We can still go back and forth. They can be a very stacked team that's underachieving. They can score 7 runs a game, but if they give up 9...

No I’m not wanting them to overtake us or anything. I just love those competitive series with them, when the division is close. Like even in 18 when we had the division without a doubt, our games were good with the yanks.

Given their lineup, the games are going to be competitive no matter what their standings are. I'd rather have them in the dump and miserable.
