Does the CPU slow down , Instantly , if used constantly ?

I've been Running Horizon Zero Dawn on PC

I noticed my CPU that goes to 3.92ghz goes down to 2.33ghz while the useage is a 100% .

I thought it was a Game specific problem........ But it seems if you run a PC anytime it keeps slowing down.

Is this a thing thats possible? Because other games do not throttle my CPU from 3.9 to 2.3 . ( I don't think its thermal cause that should take time..... right?)

Thermal problems can kick in pretty quickly especially if your cpu cooler is defective. So cleaning out is recommended step to atleast rule it out.

There is constant monitoring of the CPU temperature, and if it gets too high then throttling is immediately applied. Usually in steps, but it happens quickly. Any time your utilization goes to 100% and stays there, throttling is likely to happen.

I don't know about HZD, but various games are known to push CPUs and GPUs to their limits.

Also, clean out all your fans and make sure that your heat sink has good thermal paste between the CPU and heat sink. It can dry up over time and significantly hurt how well your CPU can be cooled.

Thanks!

QUESTION - how many years would you say it takes thermal Paste to dry?

And.... Is it possible to replace on a Laptop

There are various different thermal pastes/materials. They aren't all the same.

Laptops are a lot more tricky. Definitely possible, but can be a bad idea for an amateur to attempt. Some of the cables can be very hard to re-attach.
