Upgraded my USG-PRO-4 from 4.4.52.5363507 to 4.4.55.5377109 and WAN + PPPoE not working

Question

Upgraded my USG-PRO-4 from 4.4.52.5363507 to 4.4.55.5377109 and WAN + PPPoE not working, after update my WAN reverted to DHCP and when I set it to PPPoE (for my ISP) it no longer sees a WAN port and does nothing to connect.

Has anyone else experience this issue? I've tried restarting, reverting the firmware. But now it's not working when I set connection type to PPPoE (either WAN1 or WAN2). DHCP connections, not issue.

Worked fine for me.

Was it configured with a VLAN before? It probably nuked that configuration too.

If you've got nightly controller backups, could be worth looking into reverting to yesterday's when it was working, with luck should put the right config back on the USG.

VLAN, not sure what you mean. Never mentioned that.

I can set it in the controller, the hardware seems to be the issue with the firmware. So not sure what reverting the controller backup would help, over downgraded the firmware.

Ubiquiti "support" aren't much help so far, other than saying reset hardware and update controller/firmware. But the latest firmware was the issue..

If your ISP requires something to be set there (mine doesn't, but a lot do) it's not going to connect without it.

Just Google "<your ISP> internet VLAN" and see what comes up.

Ah, my ISP doesn't require that. Just the username and password for the PPPoE connection. Which is being recorded and populated in the controller, but the port/interface isn't being engaged at the hardware level of the USG anymore when set to PPPoE.

I have seen this happen before, but sorry I don't remember the equipment/version. My USG-PRO-4 (PPPoE) is a three hour drive away, so I think I am going to be careful here.

Thank you for posting! I was searching for this exact same reason.

I had to revert firmware and then upgrade again, it appears there was an issue with the update process due to there not being an active internet connection at the time of upgrade for the USG-Pro-4. I think I had cached the firmware and performed the update during a net downtime.

Well that's unfortunate timing. When you upgraded, did it retain your config, incl the PPPoE password? I can't be close to the device to reset it and it's inform host is offsite as well. So I am nervous to change a thing unless I am physically there.

Glad you got past it.

The issue was, that it would loose the whole port and not able to connect using any credentials. Then wouldn't retain the PPPoE ones when I tried to save. But it happen so long ago I'm not 100% certain of my memory. From memory, when I did upgrade the firmware and had a live internet connection it worked fine. Though that was for an older firmware (than current) and I think at the time I was using the failover 4LTE connection.
