Ok, so the oil is limited to 5% THC (by weight I guess?). True, most leaf form cannabis is greater than 20%, but....you are also allowed to possess 20 fluid ounces of the oil, which is about 600 ml. That is...a boatload of THC unless I'm missing something. 3 or 4 ml would knock you out.
As someone who is considering moving to GA but needs some THC to sleep for a medical issue I have, I'm interested to hear what people think of this.
Unless something changed I don't think this legislation is going to let you walk into the local vape shop and buy a vial of this stuff. I think it's limited to people with terminal or debilitating chronic illnesses.
I appreciate your point. I see PTSD is listed as an acceptable condition, and my case is well documented. But I do agree caution is warranted.
My doctor gave me one for "intractable pain" which was my stomach always hurts. The doctors with the ability to add people to the registry are pretty gung ho about getting people added. You shouldn't have any issues there.
I have the card, cant actually buy the oil though because there isnt a place to buy it. The state government has been dragging their feet to an extreme on that front. At this rate my card is likely going to expire before i can ever buy it legally. I just order delta 8 thc products off the internet instead. Delta 8 is federally legal since its derived from hemp. The delta 8 carts all contain less than 3% of delta 9 thc, I'm totally legal to have it anywhere with my card since its under 5%. Skyhio is a good site to purchase it from. They have carts, tinctures, and edibles. I get stoned like its a regular cart. You'd likely be fine with it unless you're a heavy smoker. Check out r/delta8 for more info.
D8 is also sold at a lot of head shops here because its not illegal in GA. Can confirm as an occasional user it feels mostly the same, just a little less strong maybe?
It will show up on a drug test as THC though. Just be aware
D8 is weird. Some people have zero effects from it. Tried it a few times since it’s LEGAL. All it did was make me cough.
I appreciate your point and have tried it. I agree it will work fine for me, but I'm just planning ahead in case GA bans delta 8 like other states recently have. I fought hard to get my health back, and so it's nice to have a backup plan like this THC oil thing.
5% THC is nothing. Absolutely no euphoric capacity unless you have never consumed THC. I qualify for a card but the closest physician is over 200 miles. In Florida THC levels start low and go upward of 76%. . I have autoimmune arthritis and wish I could rely on little more THC and less on opiates.

But again, you can have 20 fluid ounces. If you consumed 1% of that total volume you would have consumed about 250 mg THC. That's....greenout level high. Unless I'm missing something?
I would think that would be a very expensive dose if all you’re looking to do is get high?
I would think that would be a very expensive dose if all you’re looking to do is get high?
I guess I don't understand this statement, and if I'm wrong I want to know about it before I make a regrettable decision and move to a place where I can't get what I need to sleep.
Here is my reasoning: while it is true that this oil is 5% THC while cannabis leaf/bud is more like 25% THC these days or even higher, the key piece to keep in mind is the DENSITY of each substance. If you have an 1/8 of cannabis bud, you have about 875 mg of THC, and a good portion of that will be eliminated during the combustion reaction if you are smoking it.
In the case of 5% THC oil, you are allowed to have 20 fluid ounces, which is about 0.59 liters. At a density of about 1g/ml for THC distillate (or 1.29 g/ml for a glycerin suspension), you might have about 29 GRAMS of THC. That means if you take 1 ml of your 590 ml allotment, you have consumed 50 mg of THC - that dose is about equivalent to the highest dose of THC I have personally ever taken, and it was too much for me. And now you can do that 589 more times.
Now to get back to your question, isn't that an expensive dose? Well, that depends first upon how they price it, second upon how well you metabolize THC in oil form, and how much your doctor allowed you to have at once/how often you are allowed to refill which might add costs of transport to a dispensary and also limit your overall supply. I've seen nothing published about how often you can get refills, so I guess that's an unknown.
We also don't know how much THC companies will actually include. Will they stay well below the 5% limit? Will there be multiple options for different people to choose from? Will doctors be deciding what ratio of THC:CBD you are allowed to pick up? All unknown.
But absent any severe restrictions, I'm having a hard time understanding why this wouldn't be a perfectly sufficient amount for most people in a fairly small volume.
Do you know if GA accepts med cards from other states (similar to nevada) once the program is actually functioning?
I doubt it. You’d probably need to get seen by a local pcp.
My mom needs oil for cancer, also heroine oil too but I dont know how legal that is
check out r/delta8 Its another type of thc that is derived from hemp so its legal. You can order it online.
They are busting vape shops for selling delta in Fayette county. Lots of states are trying to ban it.
I remember being on a Santa Barbara, CA city bus in 2009 looking at a newspaper ad for a pot doctor. Like, not hidin' it, "Geeeeeet-chur pot here!" Doctor.
Here we are over a decade later, 17 states with recreational marijuana laws on the books, and our redneck representatives are making sure no one can accuse them of not doing 'something'. Georgia is bursting at the seams with cannabis business.
how the Republican party stole medical marijuana
But he's a Republican!
Oof...I'm also someone who has lived in every US timezone and this comment is making me wonder a little. By the average American standard, low THC oil is quite backwards, yes. Not just by a liberal standard, but also by your friendly redneck Alaskan standard. And your friendly hick Mississippi standard.
I'm just trying to get information in case I move there, not pat anyone on the back for doing something that was already outdated in 1994.
Imagine being so stupid you think pot prohibition is something other than a government yet again over stepping its boundaries. Republicans act like they hate regulation then cry to regulate with harsh laws that take freedom and liberty from people for a plant. What a hilarious irony

Meh
There is always something to complain about on this platform.
Says the guy complaining
More of an observation.
Just legalize it already. DAMN!
Gotta wait for that menthol ban to happen so we have some other bullshit to put people in jail for.
One of the dumbest moves from this Whitehouse.
oh no they’re going to stop predominantly minorities from getting disproportionate rates of cancer, how evil!
....do you seriously think they’re going to start locking up people for smoking menthols, or are you just being deliberately ignorant? It’s a ban on manufacturers and distributors. They’re not going to arrest you if they catch you with a old Menthol once the ban on manufacturing is in place.
I'm mostly being facetious, but they're definitely gonna bust some mom and pop convenience stores for selling black market menthols and fuck people's lives up for dumb reasons like they already do with the war on drugs.
Well, Eric Garner was killed by police under the suspicion of selling cigarettes without a tax stamp, so it's not that outrageous or ignorant. So there's that.
It's really hard not to reflexively assume that the delays have come from their need to set up the system in such a way that the right people profit from it.
