Taylor vs Ramirez is going to be a war

35
Boxingfansunite•

If it goes into the trenches I have Ramirez winning.

If he uses his outside game and boxing skills, I have Taylor winning.

12
Small_Explorer8773•

I disagree, I think Ramirez is underrated on the outside and overrated on the inside. Taylor is easily the best infighter at 140.

Ramirez did ok against an outboxer in Postol. Taylor is more similar to Zepeda but a better version.

Taylor is easily the best infighter at 140.

I was legit surprised that he was outworking Prograis at times on the inside

Thought you might appreciate my painting of Thomas Hearns.

"R.I.P."!?

8
kajhagart420•

Omg. I tought he was dead, but it was Hagler who died. Oof, my bad.

11
StaticEruptionOP•

Holy fuck this is actually the funniest thing all year

12
kajhagart420•

Epic brainfart. But yeah, I made this painting a couple of months ago, and unfortunately I didn't make it because I tought Hearns was dead. That would've been even funnier.

..Had to check if I wrote "R.I.P." in my IG post when I posted this one, but fortunately didn't. :--D gg

taylor-ramirez has a disgusting undercard like fr it's terrible

Still wanna see Nery move down and face Inoue in america just so we can enjoy him getting knocked out once more.

9
Breakingwho•

God I hope Usyk beats AJ.

9
huntergreeny•

It's unreal how much stock people put into the 'updates' on Joshua vs Fury. For over a year people like Hearn would say 'it's nearly done.' Each time it'd get upvoted loads when really it was just the same update every time. Now back to square one.

rosco-82•

I'm expecting a hard-fought but comfortable MD for Taylor on Saturday, if the US allowed Scottish citizens in then my friends and I would have been over for the fight but what can you do

7
Routine-Lengthiness1•

Why isn't the US allowing Scottish citizens in? Seems a weird country to have on the no entry list given that Scotland has a way lower rate of COVID cases and a higher rate of vaccination than the US

3
rosco-82•

It's been on the list since Trump banned all European countries last year, I don't think any European countries have been added

3
ElectricJeffPierce•

They don’t allow Scottish citizens? I thought a whole bunch of UK folks were at the Canelo vs Saunders fight?

1
rosco-82•

No person living in the United Kingdom or Ireland is allowed into the US, it's European ESTA system was stopped by Trump and hasn't been restarted by Joe

5
capable_capuchin•

If Usyk beat Joshua would that make him P4P #1?

7
Queefinonthehaters•

I could see the argument beating someone that much bigger than you. Going from CW to the Joshua end of HW is way more significant than the lighter weight classes that Canelo is spanning, but I don't think Usyk's resume would be all that comparable to Canelo's so its hard to say. I also think when you get to HW, upsets are a lot easier to happen, where small guys have a lot better chance than being undersized in smaller weight classes. Those guys just aren't as likely to have that one punch KO power that a HW would. Also Joshua already lost to Ruiz, who arguably has a smaller frame than Usyk with way more rolls covering it. It would be a very subjective debate IMO.

5
Breakingwho•

Definitely might. He's already in my top 5, was 2nd for me but inactivity against top guys made me drop him down a bit.

4
Routine-Lengthiness1•

It would be the equivalent of Canelo beating Beterbiev so I'd say yes

3
Queefinonthehaters•

Right, but the only thing is that while Usyk unified CW, his resume doesn't have nearly the name power that Canelo's does. Just going back to that thread that got reupped last week about people's opinion on Canelo going up to face the monsters at 168, we have to remember the context in what an amazing feat it has been for him to already have cleaned out that division. We have a tendency to keep moving the goalposts

3
qzwxecrvtbyn111•

It'd certainly put him in comparison with Canelo. It'd be close enough that it honestly depends on the fashion in which Usyk beats AJ and Canelo beats Plant.

2
HarryManilowcaneloismypapi•

think Usyk would need a few more convincing wins at HW still to be in that convo, maybe if he beat the likes of Ruiz/Ortiz/Parker types.. no shame in losing to AJ or Fury for sheer size alone.

he Cruiserweights he's beat are no slouches but Canelo's taken on some HOFers (prime or not) and it's generally agreed the middle weight classes overall have more talent than the heavies

Hi guys, beginner here who just joined a boxing gym for first time a week ago. During the boxing class, we are doing mitt work and practicing combos, and I was paired with an adult with lots of exp in boxing. When I'm doing my combos, he jumps around /shuffles quickly to left / right, and if I get out of position or let my guard down, or mess up the combo, he hits me in the gut / head (whether I'm in gloves or mitts). Is this par for mitt work? It's not super painful, but a few caught me off guard and hurt pretty bad, but just wondering if this is just part of "toughening up". Thanks!

DANNYBOYLOVER•

Communicate with your trainers. If you don't feel comfortable talking to your trainer about this, find another trainer that you will be comfortable with.

Boxing should always be fun, none of us are going to be on a DAZN card anytime soon.

10
joiemoie•

Sounds good, thanks! Yup, I was a bit nervous, but I'll try to communicate better next time.

4
The_Dork-uh-Whale•

I’ve gotten a little tap on the head when I dropped my hands. It taught me to keep my hands up really quick. That being said, it’s up to you whether or not you want that sort of training. If you’re training because you want to become a fighter, you might as well get used to getting hit after a mistake now because an opponent will definitely hit you during a fight. If you’re just there to work out, you can either take it, or find a different trainer who won’t hit you. It really depends on what you want out of it.

4
joiemoie•

Thanks. I appreciate the training, although I think I'll say to ease up a bit next time. My stamina has difficulty maintaining tight boxing stance at the moment for too too long šŸ˜…

2
watercolorkiller•

It just depends on the persons motivations for doing it. I love when we are doing mitt work and my coach catches me in the head or side if I’m not being diligent about my defense, but that’s because I trust that it’s not being done with malicious intent. Plus I just enjoy that rough and tumble style of teaching.

If you feel the guy is fucking with you set your boundaries. But also another lesson is to set your boundaries immediately as soon as people cross them. Not setting a boundary for yourself is just letting others set the boundary for you.

RidderBier•

I say a good trainer builds your confidence first by teaching you how to defend in the first place. No need to hit you if don't even have the bare basics down. It sounds me to like he's being a bit of a twat.

1
joiemoie•

Yea, it wasn't even a trainer. It was just another gym member, and he didn't explain to me proper blocking technique, just wacked if I seemed to do something wrong.

Hi all,

What are some of the best light heavy fights to watch, regardless of era?

I'm in that weight class and looking to learn. Whilst I love the speed of the lights, and the knife edge of the heavies, I'm really interested in what you consider to be the classics in light heavy.

There is such a rich history, it really helps to have some guidence from you guys.

Thanks!

4
Breakingwho•

70s light-heavyweight is the best era for this stuff I reckon. Marvin Johnson, Yaqui Lopez, Mathew Saad Muhammad, Victor Galindez. Every single one of their fights with each other are fantastic. Matthew Saad Muhammad might have the most great fights of any fighter I've ever seen, along with Bobby Chacon and Rafael Limon. Like half of his fights could be FOTY conteners. Mathew Saad Muhammad's fights with John Conteh are great, so is his fight with Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.

Then Michael Spinks and Dwight Muhammad Qawi come through and beat most of those older guys, and those fights are worth watching.

If you want one in particular to watch it should be Mathew Saad Muhammad vs Yaqui Lopez 2. Ridiculous shit.

Thank you very much. Going to trawl YouTube etc for some of these. Appreciated :)

So that's where Kash Ali's been hiding since chewing chunks outta Price. Actually looks decent value for money, thanks for the heads up.

Wonder why Sexy Sergio and Oscar isn’t being talked about as a potential fight right now. I know Sergio is looking for more serious fights, but that’d be perfect tbh..

3
persabi•

is it true fury ducking aj? why would he do that?

3
blaugranaculer•

he's not ducking, he's just been an idiot and not fulfilled his rematch clause with wilder and expected wilder to just turn down the opportunity to fight and get £30 million.

10
StaticEruptionOP•

Nothing at all to suggest either guy is ducking

8
linesy91•

One thing that doesn't make much sense to me about the Fury/Wilder situation is why Wilder would want to jump back in at the deep end after such a heavy loss and so much time out of the ring. He hasn't fought anyone since and won't have time for a tune up, if he loses it will be pretty much curtains for his career.

3
StaticEruptionOP•

There’s two very obvious reasons

  1. Wilder is too old to wait another year or two. No one knows when he’ll begin declining.
  2. If he lets go of a chance to fight Fury, will he ever get another?

Honestly ideally both guys could probably use a tune-up right now, but it was hard enough getting to this point that I don’t see any negotiation about that even being considered.

17
Adsuppal•

He doesn't want to fight Fury, he wants step aside money.

3
yell-loud•

Does Usyk actually have a chance vs Joshua? I thought he looked good in his last fight but idk I feel like the size and power will be too much

3
StaticEruptionOP•

I mean saying he has no chance is maybe too far, but I thought he looked kind of fragile against Chisora at points and don’t like him at all to beat AJ.

3
Breakingwho•

Yes. He's the best boxer AJ has ever fought, faster than most of the guys he's fought and has the best footwork. Povetkin and Ruiz gave him problems despite the size disadvantage and Usyk has shown to have a great chin.

Idk if I'll pick him, especially because he looks like he might have slowed down a bit to me, but he has a great chance.

2
HarryManilowcaneloismypapi•

i think he'll have a real time with AJ. love Usyk's style and talents but i think AJ is the worst matchup for him of the major heavies.. doubt he can hurt AJ and AJ's conditioning and speed are very good for his size. meanwhile, Usyk is hittable and AJ can hurt him

So if I get this straight, and sorry for talking about Jake Paul, but he supposedly signs with Showtime. Triller spent an insane amount of money on the Lopez fight, which has arguably the worst undercard anyone’s ever seen. So that’s gonna probably flop and then will most likely be the end of Triller? Mike’s left, Paul left, and they have to be hemorrhaging money

3

Darren till Vs Derek Brunson is meant to be in London August 14th šŸ‘€

Surely the UFC pushes it back a week to avoid a clash with the biggest fight in the history of boxing.

2
qzwxecrvtbyn111•

even if Joshua vs Fury happens, no way is it as big as Mayweather vs Pacquiao, or Ali vs Frazier. There are probably 10 more fights that have happened bigger than Joshua vs Fury

6

Joshua vs Usyk isn't that big
