Do people actually enjoy the cheap fake wasabi on take-away sushi trays?

Question

I love buying Salmon Nigiri trays from whole-foods, but the one thing I hate is that they leave this big chunk of wasabi touching the last piece of Salmon, completely ruining it for me. I don’t see anyway how anyone can find that taste appealing, even if it has just touched the salmon a bit, it ruins it. It just has this weird taste disguising that reminds me of puke or rancid food.

Also I’d like to clarify I’m not a picky eater at all, I love spicy foods, and I love foods with weird tastes that a lot of people don’t like such as blue cheese, black licorice, olives or liver. I’ll eat anything that’s put in front of me.

I’ve been told real wasabi is better, but can someone explain to me why anyone would ruin a nice piece of sushi with that fake shit?

Yea I like that fake wasabi. I also like real wasabi that comes in tubes.

I love wasabi.

If you’re buying sushi from Whole Foods and are upset about the fake wasabi that touches one piece of sushi, you should not eat sushi from Whole Foods. Most places you eat sushi serve “fake” wasabi. Only very high end sushi restaurants serve “real” wasabi. It is hard to grow and very expensive. With that said, yes, I like the taste of cheap “fake” wasabi on take-away sushi trays

I don’t expect a 5 star meal from Whole Foods sushi, my main complaint is that they let that shitty wasabi touch the fish. Whole Foods actually uses very high quality salmon to make the sushi, it melts in your mouth. They also make it fresh everyday, it’s surprisingly good, better than quite a few sushi restaurants I’ve been to.

Eat that piece first.

It doesn’t really make that much of a difference if it’s the first or last piece I eat, it still tastes like shit, and they shouldn’t pack the tray with the wasabi touching the sushi when a lot of people hate the taste.

Then don’t eat it at all. Or ask for a fresh tray. Or don’t buy it.

Nothing about supermarket sushi (Whole Foods or most anywhere else) is nice. If you want better quality, go to a real sushi restaurant

Whole Foods actually has good sushi, nothing like normal supermarket sushi, and better than quite a few sushi restaurants I’ve been to.

It’s fresh made everyday with really high quality fish, that’s why it’s so expensive. The salmon literally melts in your mouth. I’ve also travelled to Japan so I know what good sushi is like.

Any sushi that they make in the morning and stick in a cooler all day is trash (I’d eat it, but on the spectrum of sushi, it’s very low). The rice is bland, and the fish is decent but nothing special. Alright for a quick snack but nothing more than that.

I‘m not a picky eater at all

even if wasabi has just touched the salmon a bit, it ruins it.

Yeah, I see.

There’s a difference between being a picky eater and not liking the taste of a food. I would be a picky eater if I didn’t eat the salmon, I still eat it, I just think that the fake wasabi ruins the taste of the salmon.

I’m the complete opposite of a picky eater, I will eat literally anything that’s put in front of me, even weird tasting stuff like liver, I’ve even eaten grubs one time when I was camping. I’ll try literally any food as long as it’s something that won’t give me food poisoning.

A picky eater is someone who refuses to eat food they don’t like, and isn’t willing to try new foods.

Most people wouldn't know the difference. Where do you normally get real wasabi and how much does it cost per ounce?

I hate it personally
