Tips for those who are new to D4DJ Groovy Mix: Building a Unit

Groovy Mix (EN)

Ever since I posted my original "Tips for those who are new to D4DJ Groovy Mix" post, a bunch of people have asked what they should consider when build a unit. So for this post, I will be going into detail over the process that I take when I build a unit based on my experience playing the JP version of the game. The original post can be found here.

For some background, a unit's total power consist of the total card power (fist four slots), total card power for your support members (last four slots), and the power that is given from Club Equipments. Note that the power from Club Equipments is only calculated with the "main" unit members (the first four members) and not the support members (last four slots). There is a fourth factor called "event power" that is also added to your total power, calculated from you "main" unit members if they are same as the event member and style. This will only affect your total unit power when you are playing specific modes during events. So the unit's event power will not contribute to the unit's total power in Free and Multi Live.

For the amount of units that you should have, I strongly recommend having two units consisting of a "main unit", a unit with the highest total power, and an "event unit", used for events. You can have more units if you want, but I strongly recommend a player to have at least these two units. For any unit, the support members would be the your four most powerful cards that you have available after creating your unit.

Building a Main Unit:

* You can do this in-game, but I would get out a piece of paper for this part. A calculator is recommended.

Use D4DJ Fandom to see which cards you have are the most powerful. The easiest way to look for a certain card would be to go to character's page that the card is for and click on the cards section to select the page for the cards you are looking for. After selecting the page of the card, look for the "Parameters" section and add the largest number for Heart, Technique, and Physical for the card's total power after maxing out its level.

After knowing the total power for your cards at max level, create six different units for each unit in the game (Happy Around!, Peaky P-key, Photon Maiden, etc.) with your most powerful members from that unit. Then add the total power for each card to come up with total card power for the unit. Essentially, create a Happy Around! unit with your most powerful Rinku, Maho, Muni, and Rei cards and adding the total power of the four cards to get the unit's card power, and doing the same for the other units. After figuring out the total card power for the six unit, choose the unit that has the highest card power and that unit will be your main unit.

Don't worry about the card's style since the power for the Club Equipments is greater if you use equipments that boost a certain unit rather than a specific style, which you can earn through events.

Be flexible with your main unit. If you got a new card that will make another unit more powerful, "slowly transition" your current main unit to the new unit by leveling up that unit and replacing your current main unit when the new unit's total power becomes greater than your current main unit.

Example:

My original main unit in the JP version was an all initial 4* Photon Maiden unit. After receiving every initial 4* Happy Around! card, I went to the D4DJ Fandom and calculated the total power for the 8 cards. Then I combined the card power of the four Photon Maiden cards and the four Happy Around! cards and figure out the total card power for the Happy Around! unit was greater than the Photon Maiden unit. So I continued to use my Photon Maiden unit as I level up my Happy Around! unit until the total power of the Happy Around! unit was greater than the Photon Maiden unit.

Building an Event Unit:

This is similar to creating a main unit, but your focus is the amount of event points you earn after each live instead of your unit's total power. Every member in your unit will gain a +20% boost towards the amount of event points you earn if they are either an event character or event style, and a +40% if the member is an event character with the event style. This does not apply to support members.

In the game, test at least three to four different unit to determine which unit will earn the most points. This process will require you to play in Free Live and will use some voltage.

  1. Main unit (acting as your control)
  2. Unit consisting of your most powerful member that are the event character and event style (don't worry if you are using a 1* or 2*)
  3. Same as unit 2, but replace any 2* or 1* with a card that is the event character but ignoring event style
  4. Unit consisting of your most powerful members that are the event character, regardless of style.
  5. Any other unit combination you want to try out.

As you test your units, be sure to use the same amount of voltage (preferably one voltage per test) and to play a song on a difficulty that you can consistently get about the same amount of Prefect, Great, etc.

Example:

The event used for this example would boost cute style and all Merm4id members with the amount of bonus event points earned with each unit shown. The theoretical result of all four units will use the same song on expert difficulty using one voltage with a score rank of SS and great full combo.

  1. Four 4* most powerful Happy Around! (+0%)
  2. Three 4* cute Merm4id and One 3* cute Merm4id (+160%)
  3. Three 4* cute Merm4id and One 4* non-cute Merm4id (+140%)
  4. Four 4* non-cute Merm4id (80%)

After playing all four units in Free Live, I conclude that unit 2 will earn me the most event points. This will be followed by unit 3, then unit 4, then finally unit 1, earning the least amount of event points. Of course, I did not really test this out, but after doing multiple test for multiple events, you should be able to tell which unit will give the largest amount of event points. If you are not sure, then you can always test the units out.

So now you should have a rough idea on how to build a unit and what to consider. Of course, feel free to comment down bellow if you have any questions or something that you do not understand, and I will try to answer it as soon as possible.

June 9, 2021 21:45 UTC Important Update: Moderator CadenzaElegy have stickied a very helpful guide about the basics of the game in my original post as a temporary solution before being added to the Weekly Free Talk Megathread when it is released. The link to the guide can be found here. Please check it out to see if your question can be answered there first. I highly recommend asking any questions you have on the Weekly Free Talk Megathread when it is released so other users can also answer your question. I may sometimes pop in to answer some questions as well. If you have any questions in regard to my tips from this post when the Megathread is released, feel free to continue asking me question up until this post gets archived. But before the Megathread gets released, feel free to ask any questions here or by posting a post with the question flair.
