What's up with readers treating Isayama like a kid
A fan written ending is somehow "disrespectful to Isayama". Or thinking a fan ending is better than the actual ending is disrespectful?
Harrassment and death treats are disrespectful. Criticising and saying you didn't like a story isn't disrespectful. And these dedicated fans who chose to write a fan ending are the ones facing harrasement and being disrespected. Isayama is an adult who chose to join one of the most pressurised writing industries, criticism is to be expected.
Even students who write anything in university get they shouldn't write things they don't understand. Or they research until they do understand. This applies to many industries like music, literature, science and media. If people are displeased with an ending then learn to take criticism. If anything Isayama should be thankful that he wrote a story that people love so much to create work for free.
It's because he wrote a good story with a bad ending that these people are now producing professional level content. They are embracing their writing and artistic skill and bettering themselves because they expected more from the story.
Look at Star Wars. George Lucas received so much criticism for the prequels but chose to hand over his work to other poeple who were once fans and attempt to flesh out the content. He listened and learned from other people and became a better creator because of it.
Manga is literature and art. Only taking in your own ideas and limiting yourself to listening to a just a few people stagnates and makes your ideas worse. Learn to listen and accept criticism from other people while having a clear vision for yourself.
And if he truly didn't understand his own characters then he shouldn't have tried to complicate things to such a degree. He shouldn't have tried to write a complex story, even if I personally don't think it's that complex. I don't think the ending needed to become such a mess that it was.
Compared to thousands of stories, historical and contemporary, AoT is hardly difficult to understand. But if he truly didn't portray the characters or themes clearly to such an extent, then he's needs to severly work on his writing or he's over complicating himself.
