Long-term vehicle storage options?

I moved to the Pearl district last month and found that basically the whole area is metered parking with no permitting system. I looked at some garages but besides being pretty expensive, many lack the clearance needed for my van / are not very thrilled if I mention I’m basically looking for somewhere to park for long stretches of time, e.g. I’m not commuting with my vehicle.

Right now I’m paying for a parking spot a 15 min bike ride away, and the main issue is that I get a bit nervous given it is out of sight and in a fairly populated neighborhood. Since parking it closer doesn’t seem to be an option, I am wondering if people know of places further afield that it could be parked. Anywhere within several miles or on a public transit line would be great if it’s less visible. I basically only drive it for road trips so I’m less concerned with proximity than I am about security / chances of break-in.

Thanks for any suggestions

If you live in a zone, you can get yearly parking for 75$ a year. It’s still on street but you won’t get ticketed.

Some zones are maxed out on the permits. So try and be prepared.

Unfortunately parking on the west side has sucked for the last 20 years and is expensive. I hope it doesn’t happen but your vehicle will eventually get broken into or stolen, or parts cut off it, even in the Pearl. Portland as a whole has turned into one huge crime scene especially for car burglary and theft. Since you car is only used for road trips try checking out the U Store It kind of places, some have car storage lots that keep your car behind security fences so try them out. Hope this helps.

Thanks I'll give U Store a call. I moved from the bay area, Land of Many Break-ins, and somehow avoided this happening but agree it's a matter of time.

I would recommend you find an RV storage lot. I park mine in Beaverton near Nike in a secured lot for about $140/mo. Much safer than leaving it on the street somewhere

Most public storage facilities have parking spots you can rent. They're cheaper than parking downtown, but still cost a fair bit.

Honestly if you're using your car that rarely is it even worth keeping? Might be worth looking into like a zipcar membership, or just renting when you need it. It might work out to be cheaper than insurance, parking, and maintenance.

It would probably be cheaper to just pay your lease break fee and move to a building with an underground parking garage. Or even a building with street parking since at least you’d be closer to check on the car.

$200/month for anywhere West side. There are lots in inner SE that run about $100.

Center map in SE, search "parking lots" and you'll see four or five. Good luck

Well, I'm paying about that much for the current spot, but it doesn't really solve my problem of not knowing if my van is broken into on any given day. I dunno.
