Micron VLP RAM differences

Build/Parts Check

I'm looking to get 2x16GB Micron VLP RAM and there's two models that seem identical: MTA18ADF2G72AZ-2G6E1 and MTA18ADF2G72AZ-2G6E2, except the second one is much more expensive

Does anyone know the difference between the two? Can't find any information anywhere

oh yep I found that datasheet too, I guess the question is more if there's a functional difference

I guess you have to ask Micron to be sure. The E2 revision isn't even listed on their site.

Still, going with the cheaper E1 should be fine for normal use since they have identical rated specs.

Edit:

Found a very relevant document:

The first letter stands for die revisions, second number stands for PCB revisions. That should mean the two RAMs have identical dies but slightly different PCBs.

Sometimes the different revision means that different memory dies have been used.

Brands like Corsair silently switch memory dies without telling anyone or changing the SKU, but afaik Micron has a pretty good track record of making it easier to identify which dies are used in which SKU.

The difference is the second one costs more.
