Treatment for large industrial windows

I moved into this apartment a little while back and there are these large windows with no form of covering:

At the top there are brackets mounted, which I guess were from previous blinds (the squarish ones) and curtains (the flat ones with a hole):

The geometry of the windows makes hanging curtains a bit confusing to me, because the wall above is not flush meaning I’m not sure how to avoid creating a large gap with a rod. Also the size of the windows makes everything a bit harder to source parts for. The dimensions are:

  • 45” across for the 3 pane left/right windows
  • 75” across for the 5 pane center window
  • 80 or 81” high

The height of the room is around 11 feet but I’m not sure if curtains should extend down to the radiator (seems potentially hazardous?).

I’m open to many different options and I suppose I’m on a sub-$1k budget. Anything fitting into the industrial aesthetic of the rest of the apartment would be great. Thanks for any suggestions.

Looks like they had blinds for each of the 3 windows, but you could also do roller shades. Those can be hung from the ceiling, like they had done before. If you do blinds, you may be able to reuse their brackets too if you can get them to fit. Depending on your budget you can do plain or fancy, and you can get them cut to size at major building centers such as Home Depot so you don't have to order custom. This would help with light filtering and privacy.

The second set of brackets was probably used for the decorative curtain if you want any. For a industrial aesthetic, I don't know that they would be required, but you could start with the blinds and go from there. There are tutorials online on how to do your own curtain rods using plumbing pipes and fixtures if you want. This could be your opportunity to introduce either a pop of color or bold design that could easily be changed out.

The square bracket was for blinds, with an inside mount. The other one looks almost like a roller shade (I might be wrong though). I think the best bet might be vertical blinds. They could be done with an inside mount, and open from the centre out. You could do panels instead of standard blinds - they might look a big more modern and could have that "industrial" look.

For such a large window, it would probably be best to hire a professional. They'll know what will work best for these particular windows.
