Damn kids keep burning out my doorbell, can you help?
So Double E's out in Reddit world...
Damn kids keep burning out my mechanical doorbell! They hold down the button (it chimes once, as it should) but since the current is still going to the chime, the solenoid is energized -- then it welds up tight and won't "un-bell" for another operation.
My door bell switch can be wired for a normally open or normally closed setting, if that helps.
I want to either find a product or make something (out of radioshack parts, etc) to send one pulse per push of the button.
For example:
Kid: OFF________ON-----------------__________------------------
Bell: OFF________ON-------_________________-------_______
My doorbell runs at 22V AC - basic contractor grade Zenith chime. Any ideas how to do this effectively?
:)
EDIT: Going to bed for now. I've narrowed it down to the 555 setup Discussed Here or the PTC device, though I am a bit weary if it'll work everytime (555 seems more reliable perhaps).
EDIT 2: Planning for a 555 - will post schematic here tomorrow.
Your help is always appreciated! I wish I paid more attention during Physics :).
