Does Anyone Know Anything About Eustachian Tube Dysfunction?

I'm 90% sure I have this from reading a bit about this yesterday. Clicking / popping sensation (worse in left ear), tinnitus (worse in left ear), severe pain when changing altitude. When it says 'Who is most at risk?' it says: "People with allergies. More persistent allergies or conditions that affect the nose, such as persistent rhinitis, can cause more mucus and increase the chance of congestion."

Just wondering if any other sinusitis sufferers have experienced this and how they coped. The surgical treatments all sound pretty horrible (drilling holes in the ears!) Thx

I had severe ETD after several ear infections that occurred alongside sinus infections.

Once the infection was gone my left tube was swollen shut. I fixed the ETD by using a device called the "Eustachi Eustachian Tube Exerciser" which pushes air into the tubes and allows them to drain. It took 1-2 months of doing that daily before it felt fully cleared and I could hear 100%.

1+ year later I can now clear my eustachian tubes while yawning, as is normal.

Thanks for the reply; I'll definitely look into that treatment.

Hi new vision, I bought the Eustachi and tried it once. I got scared it would pop my ear drum or make my clogged ears worse. You said it took 1 to 2 months? If it didn't work at first why did you keep using it? How often and what did you do? Did you try it in both nostrils. I am so miserable. I'm on my fifth month and often think of not wanting to live another day with this... :( Thank You So Much

I'm sorry for what you're going through. Don't give up!

I got scared it would pop my ear drum or make my clogged ears worse.

Being overzealous with the Eustachi could hurt your eardrum, but I followed the instructions and used it safely.

If it didn't work at first why did you keep using it?

The Eustachi isn't an instant fix, but is meant to retrain your tubes to open on their own. It worked for me but took a long time until my ear felt completely clear.

After many ear infections my eustachian tube was swollen shut. My hearing was blocked and I had constant pain and inflammation. I was unable to open my eustachian tube by pinching my nose and exhaling with my mouth closed. The fluid trapped in there was unable to drain, and probably contained bacteria or something that caused constant pain, inflammation, and infections.

The first time I used the Eustachi was the first time I heard the "pop" of my eustachian tube opening since it had shut. For a few seconds I could hear normally. By opening it 1-3 times per day like this, I was able to gradually retrain it to open on its own. This also allowed the infectious trapped mucus to slowly drain over 1-2 months.

Hi, what was the correct way to use it? What could I do wrong? I just barely tried it and got scared I'd make it worse or pop the ear drum so another $50 plus bucks is sitting under my bathroom sink. I even bought an ear massager I saw on the Doctors and that was a joke. I recently bought the otovent but afraid to use that too. It all sounds so good when you read about it from some people and also look at reviews on amazon. (some aren't so good) I am literally going crazy. The ent's say no wax, no fluid but I think mucus is in there. It was just my right now it's my left too. This has never happened before when I was sick with colds or flu. Why would this happen now. I wasn't sick. Thanks for responding to me. Your very kind. HEALING HUGS. So did it open after 1 to 2 months? Is it still open......

I just followed the instructions that came with it. https://www.eustachiunclogsears.com/take-action

Yes, after a few weeks of opening the eustachian tube with the eustachi, it started to occasionally open during a yawn or swallow like they're supposed to. Even after the infection was gone I couldn't hear out of that ear for awhile and it felt "full". Now it is normal and I haven't used the eustachi in 2 years. Good luck! I also chewed gum because it felt like it might work the tubes.

Try taking an antihistamine every day for a few weeks. And also use your hands to rub circles near your jaw and towards your ear. That can sometimes get mine to pop and equalize the pressure.

I don't know a lot about ETD, but problems with your ears / eustachian tubes can also sometimes be caused by enlarged adenoids. My brother had the types of issues you are describing, and over time basically went deaf in that ear. Finally saw an ENT who did an MRI and found his adenoids were huge and covering the ET. Had an adenoidectomy and feels like a new man now.
