Anybody ever get the feeling the game knows what you're up to?

Discussion

Like, you decide you want a Dapple Bay Tennessee Walker (or whatever). You see it everywhere, thinks it's a pretty horse. Then when you decide, 'OK, I'm going to grab one of those and ride it for a while.'

Then it's like... that's the last time you'll see that horse for ages.

Paints, Mustangs and Hungarians seem especially prone to this...

Yup. Not with horses so much as hunting for the pelts to unlock satchels.

Normal running around i see badgers and possums all the time. When i need one theyre never around

Oh, that's for sure with the satchel requirements!

When you need a 3 star possum, they're practically extinct.

That has always happened in Rockstar games

But how does it know I want to find a Dapple Gray Thoroughbred?

It's kind of eerie sometimes.

When I last played 2 months ago I was hunting for cougar pelts and couldn't find one. I opened it up yesterday and managed to find one almost immediately. It was a two star one.

I also on this playthrough tried to find a mustang early on I kept leaving and going back as I progressed after about the 30th time I got one

Yeah, I ran into a herd of 6 mustangs the other day- no shit. 3 grullos and 3 bays. I chased after 'em for a while. But let me want to find one and they're nowhere to be seen.

Yes, the same happens to me in GTA, any time I want some car it is suddenly impossible to find, it only reappears when I give up and am not paying attention

Old gta used to be programmed that it would only spawn the same class of car you were in rather than what we have now where cars kinda have neighbourhoods

It’s a funny world we live in

Yes. I’ve been desperately hunting for, of all things, a blue jay.

I have spent hours riding around near forests and hills, scanning the skies and listening for chirping. I go to the creeks and rivers and lakes, look out across the water, and see nothing but scarlet tanager songbirds and sparrows perched and resting on the rocks.

At one point I even find a “Fauna of North America” cigarette card of...a blue jay.

Then at one point out of the blue while going on a crime spree, literally assaulting multiple towns and setting them alight, mowing down scores of lawmen. My honor tanks and goes down to half way. At one point I’m fooling around, shooting some bounty hunters and riding from them near a lake, when suddenly a blue jay flutters right in front of my face, practically begging to be shot, but I’m an outlaw on that run, and bullets are whizzing by my head and smacking into my horse. And there’s that blue jay...and I haven’t seen another one yet lol.

Here's a vid I made about a great small bird location. In this particular vid I got 3 star blue jay, woodpecker, cardinal, robin, oriole, songbird with CONSECUTIVE arrows.

I can pretty much get a blue jay there any time I want. The map's included in the vid.

No shit, I've got like 50 perfect blue jays in my satchel right this moment.

Wow! Thank you! It’s funny because I’m actually really into birdwatching in real life! lol

I recently obtained every crafted hat in the story—at least I thought I did—and then I unlocked more hats! And some look really cool! Only many of them require robin and blue jay feathers.

When I load out my horse, I have a bird hunting outfit I wear just for that activity because I do it so much. LOL, I'm not wearing it in that vid.

But I like the hats with the feathers, moccasins (for quiet feet) and earth-toned shirts.

1

Thank you for this video! Now I can find the damned Oriole lol

2
dalinettaOP•

I have to say, that oriole isn't as frequent a spawn at that locale as the blue jay and cardinal. But when it does spawn, it spawns on that rock you saw me shoot it from.

I would usually cut a video like that to make it shorter but the whole point to that one was the consecutive arrow thing and there is always someone who'll say, 'Aw you cut out the part where you missed...'

Anyway, you have 2 blue jay spawns at that locale. One crow spawn. One steady cardinal spawn. The other rocks serve up a rotation of sparrow, songbird, woodpecker, the occasional robin and oriole.

I got really lucky that day in the video because any time I go there bounty hunters show up pretty quickly, and I managed all those kills before they came to run me off.

2

Ok, I'll keep that in mind when I go looking for it. I've been looking for it for forever and as usual, when I'm busy doing something else, I'll see an oriole fly by and can't kill it 🙄 So, thanks again!

Yes! I feel like I have been trying to find both the red and brindle Arabian for months! I know where I am supposed to look but they never show up! Have used the white Arabian on a previous play through so don’t really want to use it again. So frustrating!

Edit:spelling

dalinettaOP•

You should be able to see the Red Chestnut Arabian from the road.

When you're on that trail going from Lake Owanjila to Black Bone Forest, look to the west at that ridge line (it'll be to the left if you're riding towards Black Bone from Owanjila). You can plainly see the horse's outline skylighted up there. That's usually an easy one to find.

There are other horses too. Really good horses.

RumRunnerLizard:sean_macguire: Sean Macguire•

Thanks! I will have to try looking there next time I play. I found a Nokota not far from Owanjila which I have been riding and like and have ridden a turkoman and mustang before. Just like finding and trying different horses.

There's also a free Perlino Andalusian on the east side of the map. War horse. It has max health when completely bonded.

The Chocolate Roan Dutch Warmblood you can buy in Valentine stable is also a quality horse.

The Few Spotted Appaloosa is also worth a ride. It can be found at NPC campsites (you have to steal it) or sometimes at Cattail Pond.

The one of a kind Raven Black Shire that Hosea gave you is a good horse too. If you sold it... Shame. You can't buy that one or find it on a wagon.

If you wanted the fastest horse in the game and you haven't done the race challenges yet, ride around in Lemoyne until a woman asks you to race. Race her and beat her and go away. Come back a few days- to a week later. She'll offer to race you again.

Beat her again and then steal her horse. That's the Brindle Thoroughbred, it maxes at 10 speed. Pretty horse. Big and fast. A bit weak on health- but it's the same health as the brindle Arabian.

Well there is some AI involved...I don't think the game is going to murder you and then go off to the Northwest mountains to sit in the snow and ponder over it's decision for the rest of eternity. That would never happen would it? ; )

this literally happens to me even outside of rdr2
