Last time I made the mistake of not including any context for what was happening, so below is the shitty version of the 'back of the cover' summary.

I'm spoiler marking this in case people want to read without context, but also because there are suicidal themes both in the summary and in the piece itself. So be aware of that and please avoid reading if something like that would be mentally or emotionally harmful to you.

!The protagonist is a reaper who works for Death, collecting souls on earth. Reapers sometimes collect souls from hazardous locations, so they all create 'familiars', which house a piece of their soul to revive them after death. Protagonist is depressed and wants to die permanently, so she kills her familiar and intends to kill herself next. Death forces her to make a hellhound her new familiar (hard to kill, which fucks up the suicide plan). Hellhound promptly nopes the fuck out, so she has to hunt him down and either work up the nerve to murder him or figure out a way to get rid of him so she can complete her plan.!<
