It looks to me that he's staying in character the whole time, actually.
It seems like Matt is the kind of person who takes pleasure in giving his friends great experiences. The way he operates as a PC continues that trend from what I am seeing. He is regularly pushing the narrative forward in an organic and engaging way, he steps into and out of the spotlight equally, and he even pulls in other PCs to create moments for them to shine. If I were a betting man, I'd say he is thoroughly enjoying himself.
It's hard to seem engaged when your decisions have no bearing on the narrative. His thaumaturgy to lose the pursuers in the alleyway was successful, and then they had to roll again immediately after and got caught anyway.
Not at all, actually
I’m wondering if he’s intentionally taking more of a backseat role in the party. Episode one he was much more forward whereas episode two he seems more subdued.
Could be some of my own expectations since I’m used to seeing him drive the story.
