State of Moderation

Hey all!

Giving everyone an update on the state of moderation in planesgonewild.

First, as a reminder: we maintain a WHITELIST of approved domains for posting (popular image hosts only, and airliners.net). This is why you guys don't actually see a lot of spam around here... but believe me, there is a LOT of it. If you don't post on a whitelisted domain, there's a very good chance your post will never be seen by a single person, not even a moderator, because it gets lost in the sea of spam.

If you want the list, see https://www.reddit.com/wiki/automoderator/standard-conditions, image hosting sites, direct image links. Images directly uploaded on reddit are also supported.

Second, automoderator does not have a "if no rule matches, do x" feature, and as a result, there's an oddity. I had to set the subreddit to manual approval mode, and then automoderator approves them when they match a whitelisted domain. This has a weird side effect of not notifying moderators if a post doesn't match a rule, because it's not automoderator that puts those messages in the queue. We have to check the spam queue manually. I've recently become aware that reddit added another way of whitelisting domains, and it's being investigated.

Third, if you see low quality titles or not very "gonewild-like" posts, use the report button. Usually, someone will get a couple freebies before we start getting more aggressive with them. If there's no improvement still, they will get a ban, and have to reach out to us if they want privileges restored.

Finally, a reminder: occasionally, and I mean VERY occasionally, shitposts are left up. That's entirely up to us though if it's a good enough shitpost. Still, please keep shitposting exceedingly rare.

That's all I have.
