Hello Lawyers of Legal Advice! I have questions about open source licensing in regards to US law to make sure I understand what can and can't be done with it.

First, let's make sure I understand what copyright is, and what licensing is.

  1. Copyright is the right of an individual or entity to decide what happens to software they create or have the privilege of claiming copyright, who decides who can use it, the terms of use, revoke usage rights (if there is no agreement or license that prohibits) and anything similar to these concepts.

Example of a company owning copyright: an employee was hired to write a program for a company, the company owns the copyright. Or a company purchases the

Fairly recent game. Can't remember the name of it. It is a metroidvania, where you go around various terrains exploring and unlocking tech for progression. There are a number of floating islands from very large, to lots of tiny ones, including one central structure the game revolves around. Inside said structure is the endgame where an alien race was trying to preserve samples of their planet hoping one day to revive it. The layout was a bunch of various tubes that you could scan for information in a MASSIVE internal chamber of multiple floors,.

It was taken over by some creature that basically destroyed everything and released the flora and fauna before it was time. The boss is at the bott

Genre: Strategy

Estimated year of release: 2000-2005 EDIT: actually this might have been just pre-millenium. It's really hard to say, I barely remember it!

Graphics/art style: cartoon style with each faction having a simple color to differentiate them. Reminiscent of a flash game but I don't think it was flash based.

Notable characters: NA

Notable gameplay mechanics: Simple, top down grid strategy game. Grid was square aligned and not isometric/diagonal. May have been turn based. Individual units fought on the same grid, there was no separate battlemap. Think older civ game style but even more basic.

I never got to play the full version, but I think the gameplay was based on captu

Hello r/legaladvice!

I come to you asking about what would be the best way to approach an issue regarding a 501(c)(7) social club.

Due to COVID, membership meetings were not possible because of health concerns and lock downs at our organization since 2020. However, services were continuing to be provided to members.

It's now June 2022, and the board of directors have not called another membership meeting. There are three directors, and as I understand, two of them want it to happen but the person with the ability to send out the letters is dragging his feet.

Now, for the added twist.

in 2020, this social club wasn't the same social club. Two of the board members were on the board of th

Years ago, while doing a deep dive into not for profit regulation, specifically relating to 501(c)(7) social clubs, I came across a number of documents where the IRS published their reviews of various organizations.

Within those documents was the review and revocation of tax exempt status of a flying club and the reasons behind it. There was another one where the IRS reviewed another flying club, and upheld their tax exempt status, and provided the reasons.

As I am currently affiliated with a flying club, it's in my interest to help keep it on the straight and narrow, and recently there's been issues with some people looking at the regs and trying to loosely interpret them.

Hello everyone!

tl;dr Rule 5 updated. Reasoning etc follows.

Recently I had a discussion with a user about posts that I was seeing in the subreddit, and I should also make sure we're all on the same page.

When I started r/planesgonewild, it was just meant to be lighthearted humorous subreddit, imitating the gonewild format of porn subreddits, except it would be pictures of airplanes and other kinds of aircraft. It was never meant to be serious, and it is never going to be serious.

I acknowledge that there's still going to be that photo, title, or maybe just that aircraft itself that will get people turned on. Brains are weird like that. Honestly, whatever spins your props! The key point

Hello r/sysadmin!

I am preparing a plan with a small business that I work for where I intend to expand their storage capacity using Storage Spaces. I have been reading the microsoft docs, and reviewing best practices.

Currently, an NVMe drive is used to host the hyper V server hypervisor, and a couple VMs. One of which is a fileserver. I do not have the ability to deploy more servers at this time due to budget constraints, so I am making the best of what I have.

I need to add more storage, and I have a pile of hard disks to use (SATA). I prefer that the storage be as transparent to users as reasonable if I need to add or change storage drives, which is why I am choosing storage spaces go

Hey all!

Giving everyone an update on the state of moderation in planesgonewild.

First, as a reminder: we maintain a WHITELIST of approved domains for posting (popular image hosts only, and airliners.net). This is why you guys don't actually see a lot of spam around here... but believe me, there is a LOT of it. If you don't post on a whitelisted domain, there's a very good chance your post will never be seen by a single person, not even a moderator, because it gets lost in the sea of spam.

If you want the list, see https://www.reddit.com/wiki/automoderator/standard-conditions, image hosting site

Edit: montra was supposed to be mantra. Oh well

So I am doing some after hours work on systems. Have some bare metal boxes, where their services are being moved onto virtual machines.

This one particular file server has been a pain in the ass in the past, and of course, I expect it to be a pain in the ass again. I get a VM ready, start deploying the software to it, and take the old bare metal offline (In fact, I am replacing the bare metal with Hyper V, so I have to wipe the drive).

No, this isn't an oops, selected the wrong drive and wiped out all the company data kind of post... I don't trust myself enough to avoid accidents (had PLENTY of those in my homelabs), so I actually pulled the
