Exchange your simple syrup for agave syrup and you will thank me

There’s a really nice riff on this where you use 1.5 oz reposado tequila, 0.5 oz mezcal and agave syrup instead of simple syrup. It’s called a Oaxaca Old Fashioned and it’s great.

Also, I’ll give a shout out to Olmeca Altos. It’s 100% agave and pretty damn good given the relatively low price point which I think is around the same as the José Cuervo.

Get in there with some chocolate or mole bitters too!

where's the tequila?

Jose Cuervo Especial isn't tequila. they can't even legally call it tequila in Mexico. tequila is distilled from 100% agave, which Jose Cuervo is not. Cuervo makes some good, even great tequilas, but this ain't it.

Fine, it's fake tequila old fashioned. It tasted great and that's what's important.

That was harsh but that is the worst tequila you can buy.

They can legally call it tequila in America, which seems just as qualifying as your statement is disqualifying.

I will say, go for some lunazul next time. Still pretty cheap but much better IMO. And it's... 100% agave.

that would be a valid point if tequila were made in 'Murica, but it's not.

having lived there for three years, i know it's a pretty common joke that Especial is Especially for the US market, because only gringos would drink it.
