Apollo Explore Rear Rim

Tech Support

Hey all,

Went to change my first flat on my Apollo Explore and noticed something odd. In their guide videos, they show the spilt rim coming off of the disc brake side, which makes swapping tires super easy. Mine however, the split rim comes off on the opposite side, and is trapped by the motor wire. This then forces me to stretch the tire over the half of the rim still attached to the motor hub. Is anyone else's like this? It just seem totally backwards from what they show and what would make sense.

I know that it's the same with the Zero 10X - the 60V version opens the split rim on the disc side and is super easy to change, and the 52V version opens on the cable side .. I honestly don't know why they don't make all to open on the disc side 🙄

So Apollo's videos on this exact scooter show it on the disc side. I'm hoping to confirm with another Explore owner that it is indeed disc side and that mine was assembled incorrectly. I love this scooter, but it's not the first QC issue I've found.

are there also different models of the Explore? maybe it's the same as with the Zero?

So I have the original Explore. Their tire changing guide videos though are on the original Explore as well. Can you do me a favor and just look at the screws that hold the rear rim together and tell me if the head of the screw is on the brake disc side or the cable side? Whichever side the screw heads are on is the side the split part of the rim comes off of.

Assuming your motor cable is the same side as the bolt heads, the split piece will come off on that side, making swapping tires not easy. This is what mine looks like. This either requires opening the deck to disconnect the cable, or stretching a tire over the half rim fixed to the motor.

Edit: Also just curious, did your rear tire come installed backwards? Mine did. Starting to wonder if the casing of the motor was installed backwards or something.

I’m changing my first zero 10 flat (after putting it off for 9 months) and I discovered the same thing. My rim separates on the wrong side, and the valve-stem opening- rim is stuck on the motor.

Trying my best to feed this SOB over the motor rim.

Pain in the ass. Also, it’s entirely possible I’m fucking up the tube and tire stretching it over.

Meaning I’ll have to do this all over again. 😡

If you watch this video @ 10:27 you can see he does the backward version, too.
