UDMP FW update failed. Backup restore failed. How to repair?

Question

Yesterday, I made the highly regrettable decision of trying to update my UDMP from 1.8.6 to 1.10.0 after reading that version has been relatively stable. Complete disaster, involving the recovery console saying that both the local filesystem and firmware file were corrupt. My protect install and data was also completely toast.

Anyway, after hours of rebooting and hard-resetting every UI device on the network (because of course they were inaccessible over SSH to re-adopt), I managed to mostly get things online.

However, in doing so, the main LAN subnet changed (192.168.1.0/24 -> .0.0/24), and anything with a static IP on the old subnet is completely inaccessible. It's not much stuff (two PoE PiHoles and a NAS), but I have absolutely no way to get in there to reassign it. My old laptop also absolutely refuses to get a DHCP lease, but I don't care about it at the moment.

At this point I'm too scared to try changing the main LAN's subnet, as I can't risk being offline for another seven hours with people working from home, and as you might expect I have zero faith in being able to restore from a backup now. I did try expanding it to a /23 and all of the usual swapping of switch ports and rebooting, to no avail.

Anybody have ideas how to repair this situation? Is there a way to get into the old backup files and apply it piecemeal? Or a reliable way to get back down to the 1.8.6 FW and actually get my old backup restored?

Regular UDM here. Basically bricked my device, woke up to no internet

Given your luck so far, I would not try 1.8.6 until the end of the week so you have the weekend to work on any issues. I always keep a copy of the "from" firmware in case I have to go backup due to issues. A couple of thoughts that come to mind. Changing the LAN subnet should be safe except that you have to change everything that is working on the network. You might add a new subnet to your UDMPro on the old one and then add that as a secondary IP on a machine that is cooperating on your network. My Unraid box has multiple subnets on different NICs and I would use my Win10 VM to do this. Next, I would not go back to 1.8.6 no how, no way now that you're where you need to be. Finally, if you don't want to add a new subnet your network to access those old machines, you probably want to plug them into an unmanaged switch/hub with a computer to address their IP configuration.

This got me talking to the vanished devices again! Thank you so much!

Still more to fix, but I think nothing is stuck in a void anymore :)
