While unrelatedly digging through my (unfinished) attic, I realized that the HVAC return is open to all of that hot air. Basically the wall with the return register is actually open to the attic at the top.

I don't know enough about these systems to say if it's definitively a problem, but it seems suspicious as I think I'd be using the AC to cool off a bunch of hot attic air. It's a single-story home in the bay area and the HVAC system was replaced under two years ago.

Should I seal it off? If so, is something like OSB/plywood sufficient, or are there other considerations? The attic has insulation, but it's probably so old that it should be replaced with something more up to modern spec..

Yesterday, I made the highly regrettable decision of trying to update my UDMP from 1.8.6 to 1.10.0 after reading that version has been relatively stable. Complete disaster, involving the recovery console saying that both the local filesystem and firmware file were corrupt. My protect install and data was also completely toast.

Anyway, after hours of rebooting and hard-resetting every UI device on the network (because of course they were inaccessible over SSH to re-adopt), I managed to mostly get things online.

However, in doing so, the main LAN subnet changed (192.168.1.0/24 -> .0.0/24), and anything with a static IP on the old subnet is completely inaccessible. It's not much stuff (two

When I first set up my Aqara equipment, the leak sensor would sound the alarm on the hub if it detected a leak. Some time over the course of the last year, that has stopped happening (ask me how I found out...) The Homekit-native alert works just fine, but is quite easy to miss being only a notification and not a literal siren.

Is there any way to regain this behavior? I'm in Homekit-only mode with the US hub. I couldn't find any relevant settings in the app under either the sensors or the hub.

I pretty regularly have Siri on HomePods fail to respond to basic controls ("turn off the office lights", etc) on the first interaction, but trying the exact same command again five seconds later works fine 100% of the time (so far). Most frequently this is when controlling Caseta lights, but I think that's just from controlling them more often than anything else.

Doing the same thing from my phone, either by voice control or using the Home app never has problems. The desktop Home app also never fails. Just Homepods (3 mini, one original), and only the first command.

There are definitely not issues with WiFi signal strength, and the HomePods, phones, and computers are all on the same VLAN

I've got some wall outlets with built-in USB ports, and both my VOCOlinc and Aqara smart plugs are chunky enough to block the USB ports. Anyone aware of some thinner options that wouldn't get in the way?

As far as I can tell, since I've already got an Apple Card, using the monthly payments for Apple purchases is effectively a zero-interest loan that I'm pre-approved for without a credit check. Basically making the purchase cheaper thanks to inflation.

Is there a catch? Any downside at all? I can't see any reason to pay the full amount upfront (or even repay the balance early), except if you're the type that has self-control issues for purchases.

Has anyone installed or used one of these? I've got a looming bathroom remodel, and the added cost to put one in (factoring in everything else) isn't so high to rule it out. In my quest to smart-ify as much of the house as possible, it seems like an interesting option.

So far I've encountered options from Moen and Kohler, but most information seems to be limited to old CES coverage. The Moen looks a bit better on paper (no extra expensive bridges?) but it's not super clear.

Wouldn't be surprised to find it's all gimmicky crap, but if there's something that has good native Homekit support (no dependence on their app/cloud, that defeats the point of HK... I'm amazed and saddened Apple certif

The draft order before drafting starts is still wrong (which has been true ever since Reborn, I believe), and it sometimes crashes when selecting an ability, both of which potentially result in getting a completely random ability and completely ruining the whole point of the game mode.
