Boiling Over

Was I naive enough to think

That I would simmer down?

That the power of my cool

Could transcend

The height of my emotions?

Instead

The heat of my passion rises

Like steam from a boiling pot

Watching from above

As you turn the flame up

You walk away

I sigh

The bubbles climb

Slowly scaling the metal sides

Any second now

They'll overflow

And scald

My pride

first off let me say thanks for sharing! your word choice is amazing! “the heat of my passion rises”, so good! i really like the way you made it almost build up, it really brings the “boiling emotions” together. one thing i would consider would be changing “scold” in the second to last line to “scald”, as it relates to the title more. however, i think it works either way!

Ahh I definitely meant “scald” 😅 edited, thank you!

I like how the poem kind of builds in itself, like this boiling effect, working toward a crescendo
