Looking for a specific “genre” of mugs

I’m looking for mug recommendations with a tropical, ocean, nautical, or rainforest theme and imagery, without impressions of cultural elements.

Just want to start off by saying I’m not looking to start a fight. If you like those mugs, that’s your business! I’d just like to avoid them in my own collection. My issue is only that searching for “tiki mug” tends to bring up just those, or even other pop culture but in that style (like the Star Wars tiki mugs), and that’s just not what I’m personally after.

I’m thinking sea creatures, animals, plants, fruit, etc. (like pineapples, coconuts, bamboo sections!) I’ve tried searching for specifics online, but I feel like I run across a lot of stuff that looks of suspicious quality. So if you have any like this that you love and could point me to where you got them, that’d be much appreciated!

You might need to broaden your key word searches. For instance, “blowfish mug” will just get you mugs with crappy 2d graphics on them. But, “blowfish tiki mug” “3D blowfish mug” or “sculpted blowfish mug” will likely get you something closer to what you want.

It also pays to be specific in your searches. Instead of searching for “FISH tiki mug”, try instead: shark, octopus, seahorse, clownfish, etc.

Eventually you’ll find stuff you like.

have you tried browsing through thesearchfortiki.com? you can search keywords like you just put above and find tons of stuff. Just looking at my own shelf, all of them have some sort of cultural element (in a more traditional tiki way, not so much pop culture) except a volcano bowl i got at World Market. But looking through that database should give you some ideas.

Not sure if you have them in your collection already but Three Dots and a Dash in Chicago has a few mugs that are nautical themed. I got the Green Sea Urchin a few months ago and love it. They have pineapples as well but the design is made up of skulls so that might not be the aesthetic you are going for.

trader vics , the nautilus mug is so lovely, I use it all the time. The conch shell Is perfect for two. There are many other options, the pineapple with lid is adorable. They do get mugs back in stock.
