How bad of an idea is it to move my gateway eero into a concrete room with a water heater in it?

I recently bought a NAS and have it in my home office nook. The noise from the drives has me considering moving it. But the “best” place to put it where I can still hardwire it but not hear it would be in the closet under the stairs which is a concrete room but also has a water heater in it.

So I’m thinking about moving my gateway eero down there with the NAS (that’s also where my ONT is as well as the junction box where the three Ethernet ports in the condo terminate at) and placing it on an end table about 1.5-2’ tall. That would also allow me to finally enable all the Ethernet ports in the condo and allow me to get away from using MoCA adapters. But it being a concrete room with a big metal water heater filled with water makes me think that it won’t be the best spot for wireless reception.

I plan to move the leaf eero that is currently in the living room connected via MoCA to the office nook where the gateway currently is so it might be fine. Does this sound like something I should try or is it not worth doing just for a small inconvenience? I’m using eero Pro 5s if that matters.

If you use those Ethernet ports for backhaul, you would be set, no?

Yes and that’s the plan. But I’m worried about the gateway eero being essentially useless for wireless.

If you need it for coverage, yes you will need to get another leaf node.

If you can wire the leaf nodes, go for it.

Yep, that’s the plan. I just have one leaf and will definitely have it wired. But I’m just concerned about the gateway eero being essentially useless for wireless in a concrete room with a big metal container filled with water next to it.

This is likely easier to just test it out than debate it. From there you can make the decision to make it permanent or not.

That’s what I’m thinking too. Just wanted to get the pulse of the sub before I did it. Especially since I need to buy another switch and the table to make it work.
