Curious what’s the motivation to switch to sway from i3? I’m hesitant because wayland apparently isn’t too good with nvidia GPUs

I was simply curious to try Wayland.

I also saw that everything is integrated into the WM with Wayland. You don't need a separate compositor, xrandr, xwallpaper, etc. you just do it all in the Sway config so the configuration is less fragmented and there are no weird bugs where you run stuff in the wrong order.

Now that I'm on it my impressions are: it feels more responsive than X/i3, and there's no screen tearing at all which I used to get badly on X even with vsync on in Picom. Waybar is way better than polybar. It's definitely not a huge change from i3 though, and I can't speak on Nvidia compatibility other than I heard it's bad and only supports Nouveau.
