When it rains it pours

send booze 🍷

My kids had a covid exposure at their daycare and are home for the week. Possibly longer, so far we know at least a dozen kids at the daycare are sick so who knows, I'm just hoping desperately that my kids don't get sick. Multiple kids in both of their classes are covid positive as of this morning. I've been sick since Saturday (not covid, just miserable sick. I tested negative for covid and strep yesterday). I can't keep anything down and I'm trying to stay away from the kids as much as possible, because the last thing we need is toddlers throwing up everywhere while I'm out of commission. Our stove died last week and had to be replaced, the new one is scheduled to be delivered Friday but it was expensive and not something I had budgeted for. And to top it all off we got up this morning to our house being 84 degrees and the AC won't turn on. We're up to 92 degrees in the house now and can't get a tech out to look at it till Thursday. It most likely needs the condenser and evaporator replaced, which we knew was coming and were budgeting for, but see previous point about the stove dying. We were hoping the AC would make it a couple more months and we could replace it in the fall once cost went down some for being the off season for air conditioners. I just need something to go right, it's shaping up to be a very unpleasant, very expensive week.

Maybe you’ve already thought of this, and it won’t be helpful. But! Can you return the stove and find something used on Craigslist or equivalent? I got a decent range that way for like $75 when ours died a while back. It’s nothing to write home about, but it does cook things! I bet you could also find a couple window ac units for if the repair takes a long time. Even just having one cool room might save your sanity a bit. Godspeed!

Thanks for the idea, I think we'll be much happier with the nice stove I ordered and we can make it work money wise. We'll be fine, just a bit tighter on money than I'd like for a few months and I had to dip further into my safety net than I like. Luckily we have a portable AC because the AC had gone out last summer and it took a week to fix, but it means we are all "sleeping" in one room which really means no one is sleeping much and I'm still sick. If it takes too long to get fixed though I might have to get window AC units for the kids rooms to get through it.
