Port Forwarding Issue
Hi all. So I set my Hotspot to a static IP. I set up port forwarding to 44158 to the static IP. Upon checking the port it still reports closed. I messed with my firewall settings, turned it off completely, turned off pnp, and power cycled my router and Hotspot. None of these things opened the port. I even had a network engineer check that I did everything correctly. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Thanks!

Are you able to put your hotspot in a dmz for testing?
Also, what is your network topology looking like from modem > router > helium?
DMZ did nothing. I use fiber internet so my system uses a gateway as a modem and router. I've plugged directly in via Cat6 ethernet. I contacted my ISP. They are telling me that even though I reserved a DHCP I need to purchase a static IP for it to work. I guess they charge extra for that. We will see if that works I guess.
Nah the static IP they are referring to is only external, you dont need it. That frontline agent you spoke to is not trained properly.
Do you use your own router behind the gateway or just the gateway?
Also just a reminder that it takes a few hrs for the helium miner to be no longer "relayed".
How were you testing if port forwarding was setup correctly? If you were using those port forwarding websites to test if the port was forwarded those are most of the time innacurate.
If you are not using your own router behind the gateway, I would suggest to put the miner on the dmz again, reboot gateway and miner and wait a day or so then retest. If no go then set port forwarding, reboot devices again and wait a day and see
I thought it didn't sound right. I explained to him that only the miner on my network needed a static IP. He said if I wanted to receive data on the port and communicate with my device I would need a static IP. I figured at this point it couldn't hurt to try. Oh well. I do not have another router, just the gateway.
To scan I was using a tool that my network engineer used to check the port. Not sure the name. He opened the same port on his network and it showed closed first, then open after he opened the port. I was not relying on the Helium app.
I will attempt DMZ again, power cycle, and leave it for 24hrs. If that works though then the miner would be exposed without a firewall.
Thanks for the help!
Yea the agent is thinking more like remotely accessing your security cameras through your IP kind of thing.
Yes on a DMZ your device is exposed but it would take someone substancially advanced to do anything malicious to it IMHO
Np! Good luck and report back!
