Running low on Hero Points

I just started playing a week or two ago, and I gotta ask: is it normal to run low on Hero Points? I've got a dozen heroes sitting in their covers because it costs me 350 for another roster.

I've gotten all of of the HP from the campaign and don't really see many hp from story and versus.

Yes. This is a game of patience and collecting. You’ll earn hp from story events, pvp and lvling cards. It’s generally a good idea to save tokens until you have enough hp to roster another one. Tokens never expire.

Story and versus are your main source of income right now, play it all. You’re low on HP until you’re done rostering all 2,3,4 characters.

Man, I've drawn so many four stars already, spending HP on roster slots for Juggernaut or Ares seems like a waste at this point.

Do I have the wrong mindset?

You should go read the new player guide. You shouldn’t be opening tokens when you can’t afford a slot. Especially those tokens that can give you 4 or 5stars.

Say it with me: Tokens Don’t Expire. Covers Do.

LoL, I've screwed myself over then, I got a week to find 350 coins or this gambit dies.

Live and learn, I guess. I'll be smarter about this going forward. Thanks!

You'll get more 3 stars, don't worry. They're not nearly as rare as the game makes them seem at first. Do what you can, nothing is irreplaceable. Just hang on to your tokens until you can do something with them

Can you post your roster (or tell us your IGN and current alliance so we can look ingame)? Then we can help you with what to keep, what to focus on.

The game allows you to buy hero points!

I feel like the new player guide was written by and for folks that have been playing for years. This early on, go ahead and open some legend tokens. One or two rostered single-power lvl 270s will go a long way this early on.

I got a follow-up question about "Tokens don't expire"... I just gut a token for "Masterful Shang-Chi (time remaining: 6d 23h)" and I'm curious if this mantra does apply to this one too, and if yes, what happens with the token when this limited slot is expired?

The store closes. So you can’t purchase any more.

But your saved tokens remain valid to pull whenever you want. Same goes for every token.

Take note that if it’s a vault token, you should always pull from an active vault or completely defeat the point of a vault (increasing odds the more you pulled). That means if you save them, to wait for the next run of the event and a new vault.

The exception to this are the release specific &Friends or &Foes vault. Characters can only be released once. So these vaults can’t return.

you get a lot of free Ares covers (2 stars) which then generate more HC after you champ him. So he becomes a source of HC.

The only 1 star i have is spidey.

If I may, some tips from my own experience as a player who made similar mistakes while figuring out how this game works:

  • You only need to roster a single 1-star, to get max rewards from Deadpool's Daily. I use Iron Man and that's worked well for me.

  • You definitely need to roster all the 2-stars. Each one can be farmed for champion rewards, and those covers are so common that it's a shame to let them go to waste. Level them up, get those champ rewards, and when they hit max level, sell them for a big payout, roster a new copy of the same character, and start over. Takes a lot of ISO to maintain at first, but eventually it becomes a self-sustaining loop of rewards over time.

  • Avoid the temptation to roster a bunch of 4-stars before you're done with the 3-stars. The progression works best when you focus on one tier at a time. Fully rostering and championing the 47 3-stars is a big undertaking, but you'll get there eventually. Then you can start in on the 4-stars. A fully-leveled 3-star is a way more valuable addition to your roster than a 4-star with only one or two levels anyway.

  • Letting 3 or 4-star covers pass unrostered isn't the end of the world. Those resources are valuable, but not finite. You won't be able to roster everything all at once, so you'll have to pick and choose which characters to nab when you can afford a slot. You can avoid opening tokens until you have enough HP to roster someone, but then you miss out on shards and covers you can use to level up what you already have. It just comes down to whether you prefer faster progression or minimizing wasted covers. The former is better for you in the short term and the latter is better in the long term.

I'm currently almost halfway through rostering 4-stars. By the time you reach the 4-star tier, roster slots are 1,000 HP a pop, but you'll be earning HP much faster. You'll also be able to stockpile huge amounts of ISO. If you feel like you're not getting resources fast enough, you just have to be patient and slowly chip away at your goals. That gradual progression is exactly what makes this game so addictive!

For some sense of scale, I'm on week 27 or so. I've got 69 slots. I've been able to champ most of 3* and just branching into 4* now. A new slot costs me around 1000 HP. I've cycled all the 2* twice (max champion, sell, and re-roster).

The key to put this together is that by champing 2* heroes and up, you will get experience that qualifies you to play PVE and PVP at higher difficulty levels (Shield Clearance Level) for higher tier rewards.

If you have a 5*, that might make your journey through some of the lower tiers easier. A single cover of a 5* would be higher than any of my current characters. But not necessarily fun depending on the character. Otherwise there is no royal road to skip this progression through the lower star characters.

As a general rule, yes, Hero Points are a limited commodity. As a Free-to-play game, hero points and purple ISO are the two main purchases where the publisher is going to make their cash.

That bring said, with patience and strategy, you can make this game work for you without spending money, and now is a good time to be playing. There is a great roster of Marvel characters, and you're on in time for the upcoming Anniversary and Fan Favorite events.

Do your best to play through the Prologue - there are Hero Points hiding there in the rewards. My second piece of advice would be to start playing story events as soon as you have the time. You're not competing against anyone in them (at this stage) and you can usually get some HP through those. You might not have much to gain from PvP right now, but luckily there's nothing I this game that's ever really going to penalize you.

SAVE YOUR TOKENS- Good feedback from an earlier commenter - don't make heroic pulls if you can't afford to roster the occasional 3 or 4 star character.

Have fun!

Also, don't ever, EVER convince yourself you need to buy purple ISO. The worst ROI in the world.

Even the 10x sales are awful value. 100x might be somewhat tempting if I were dying to champ a new meta 4

Lol just game for the first two months and spend nothing, cause you'll need all of it and won't realize the value for the first bit I know 8 didn't till I joined this reddit

Not only normal, it's the point.

HP will be your bottleneck for progression for a very very long time.

Then it will be purple ISO.

total_dingus•

That's why I quit playing.

I really dislike that you need progressively more points for each roster slots. It feels like your diminishing the value of all future HC you get. Whenver I think that I should spend money to buy HC that is what stops me.
