Hi, I wondered if anyone has experience with LED Face Masks? I am undecided between purchasing from Dr Dennis Gross Spectralite LED face mask VS Amazon Project E Beauty LED mask.
My main points are:
Dr Dennis Gross Spectralite:
Pros: -Well established brand for skincare -Good reviews -Mask has blue light for acne and red light for skin repair/rejuvenation/dark spots
Cons:
Project E Beauty 7 colours photon light therapy mask:
Pros: -Great price! (104 for face only attachment, 190 for face and neck/chest attachment) -amazing reviews on Amazon -7 different LED colour functions
Cons:
I would be mainly using this to help with my oilyness (needs Red light reduce sebum secretion and blue light reduce sebum gland size, resulting in also less secretion), occasional hormonal breakouts and preventing comedones becoming spots (needs blue light), rosacea flushing (needs amber light), help post inflammation/spots discolouration & marks (needs green), and overall skin health (needs red light).
Has anyone tried both or either? What are your experiences, even with other brands? What would your recommend?
I thought about maybe starting with the cheaper alternative, and later in life invest in the more expensive model with infrared, but at the minute I am in my mid 20 and don’t really have issues with aging skin, loss of elasticity and collagen depletion. Very grateful for all your advice!
Okay so I've just recently gone down this rabbit hole so can share some advice. Firstly this blog and the hot and flashy YT video on LED masks really helped to cement my purchase because they put the science and technology at the forefront and I learnt a lot about what I wanted from a mask (anti-aging and some inflammatory relief).
I was super keen on the Dr Dennis Gross, however the hard plastic put me off - the flexible ones can be used on other parts of the body such as chest and neck; I've even seen people use them to help heal old scars and stretch marks. DDG has just brought out a flexible one that can be used on the body but doesn't have holes for eyes and mouth.
I ended up going with the current body (good warranty / customer care, bank holiday deal and promo codes gave me a great price and a free LED mirror!) however mine is mainly for anti-ageing rather than spots. My other choices would've been the Priori (cheapest of the omnilux bulb £220) or holding off for the Boots LED (currently at £150 but likely to go on offer again for around £100 if you want to wait).
Be a little sceptical of those masks that offer all the various colours; the only proven scientific studies with results are for the red and near infrared - all the other colours are minimal in their efficacy and the studies just aren't there to prove otherwise. Red light will work well for roseacea and inflammation.
As an aside my 80 yr old FIL had a bad fall last week and badly bruised his face resulting in 2 black eyes, various scrapes and cuts to the face. We've been using the mask twice a day for 10 minutes and its really helped with the bruising and swelling. Just a bit of anecdotal info for you :)
Ok stumbled upon this thread as a long time user of the Project E mask looking to change over to Dennis Gross. My main point of consideration is the time. So Dennis Gross mask only requires 3 minutes in comparison to other masks such as Project E which requires 20 minutes. So trying to research on that now to see if its true in this case. I have a lot of experience with LED and the Project E mask at full strength does not come close to the ones at a clinic. I have a big head as well, and the Project E mask doesn't give as much coverage. LED either way does definitely help my skin but if I can do it in a 3 minute job now over 20mins a day....I'll definitely switch if its true.
I haven't tried either but was personally looking at the Dr Dennis one myself. I personally don't trust anything from Amazon.IMO it's just a sketchy platform these days. I also don't know if having so many light color options is a good thing - not as precise wavelengths per each color (I guess wavelength matters?) I'd still go with the Dr Dennis one, assuming you can stomach the price. You might try looking on Poshmark or Mercari or something like that if you have that where you are, I've seen them on there!
Thank you! The one I looked at actually gives you the wavelength of the colours, and the costumer service fo the company seems top notch by the comments and answers they give, and I have seen a few people here talking about great experience with the mask itself. The other thing that is putting me off the Dennis gross it’s the fact that infrared light can both resolve and cause hyper pigmentation, and Dr Gross mask has that. Worse thing that can happen is infrared worsening my acne marks! HotAndFlashy made a video comparing various masks, comparing LED numbers, strength, wavelength, nm of colours offered, and Dr Gross masks wasn’t the worse but also not the best, I think power/led number wasn’t stacking great. The best one in regards of specs was Omnilux, but they had some faulty masks and their comments/replies haven’t been great. There are a few people of here that posted their bad experience with Omnilux masks and costumer service. So I am definitely put off them.
Also, do you use any eye protection? I was looking at UV Googles, but cannot find one with more than 4 star reviews
