Is this new? Idk why, but I feel like before it just didn't work after the first tablet? idk I haven't done it in os many runs, as I try mostly pacifist runs nowadays, and tablets are too valuable.
Also, side note about that, since when did the model change for holding tablets? I swear you used to be able to hold it like any other item, and you could use is as sort of shield while holding it, now when holding it your sprite model, changes makes the tablet look like a mini-me version of itself, and it does nothing to stop projectiles now. Am I misremembering, or at some point did they nerf tablets, hard?

You’re definitely remembering the tablet-holding correctly. I haven’t really picked up a tablet in a while, but i know 100%, the way you described them is how they used to work

I think fury forged tested it and it just summoned more hellblobs every time until he was out of tomes.

The "rewarded, but" says like you get both gold and enemies. I survived it when I did it, and I think there was gold.

Using more than 3 tomes will summon them.
These random quirks are why I still haven't made it past level 4 with 60 hours in. Here's to another 60 though :-)

This aspect was more obvious back in the day, but back then it could happen randomly even on the first one.

But it actually only happens on the fourth try?
According to the wiki, every tablet after the second one (so from the third onwards) has a 2 in 9 chance to spawn Hellgazers, who will then probably proceed to blast you to oblivion considering that if you're at a point in the game where the ~200 gold from a tablet seems appealing, you're probably not too ready to deal with Hellgazers.
First two ones are safe, a chance of it happening starts from the third tablet.
