I've gone down to the basement in Defender's Heart (After the cultists attacked) and the prison cell is open and I can't find Woljif Jefto. Does he disappear after a certain time has passed or a certain story trigger is met, and if yes, is there a way to still find him?

Reload and recruit him before the attack on tavern
I tried it before you initate the defend and that did not work so one would need to reload before the mission triggers and that is probably a long time ago like hours?

I reloaded and recruited him. He is a great dps.
Thanks for posting this. I also had the attack happen before I had a chance to recruit woljif. So thankfully I reloaded a save I made right before speaking with the storyteller in the tavern. Managed to get him recruited before the attack, now I wanna see if I could squeeze in the tower of esrod quest before the attack happens .
I have noticed a glitch that happens (happened?) where random things cant be interacted with or npcs cant be spoken to. Early on I think I just brushed it off as intended but as I progressed I realised what I could be. I tried saving quitting to menu and then reloading which fixed the issue.
I saw this becusse I am certain I tried to speak to Woljif in the prison cell and nothing happened. Assumed he wasn't interested in talking but I guess it was the glitch. Shame but it means my next playthrough will have some differences.

Because I didn't go down there until after the attack, unfortunately.

Same here. Luckily I had a save made shortly before thr attack, so I reloaded and ran down there. Managed to get him before the attack now. But now I gotta do the attack over again
I was in this tavern once before the attack mission was iniated, so had like one chance of goong down that stairs to see that there is something important. Usually we gamers have a sixed sense for detours but mine didnt tingle resp. I wanted to finally start palying the game. I hate turtorials even when they are well made.
Man that's so annoying I'm WAYY past that, I thought I would get him later on, cause I really wanted to recruit him. The timed stuff is aggravating cause the game does a piss poor job in telling you what is timed sensitive and what isn't.
They kind of allude to it when you wake up in there inn that the attack is imminent. That Rogue tells you after you and the guards talk about it lasting maybe one or two days

I've been conditioned to explore every location before advancing the main plot .. but when a messenger yanked me from my walk, the attack on defenders heart commenced and I missed my opportunity to recruit Woljif.
Exactly, same here. It's really annoying. They should at least make it so you can see them again, and try to recruit them. I had no idea he was going to just vanish completely.
SO here's the best part- I talked to him, but then left the inn and went out adventuring. when I got back, I had the dialogue choice to free him, and did, but he was already gone. So the triggers before or at the event itself to miss. Guess he'll have to wait for next playthrough
my guy is missing but for different reason. It's before the lost chapel attack. when my camp was being attacked didn't see him and when the attack finished it said he ran away. does he come back or any way to not let him go? he was part of my main team.

When? I’ve retaken drezen and he still hasn’t showed. I figured I missed something. Or I chose the wrong mythic path (lich)
There will be a couple of random encounters that will eventually lead you to him when moving around the map. You should have a timed quest that hints at a chance of meeting him too.
can you be more specific about the quest ? I almost finish the act after Drezen and he is still missing.
so i think i had different bug in the end of second act. he just disappeared from my party for no reason. the problem is i didnt notice it for like 6 hrs and not going back. maybe he comes back later in story but there was no reason or story given for him to disappear.
They literally talk about him running away from camp during the Gargoyle attack. You should meeting in chapter 3 again
he disappears after the attack on the tavern, I do not believe you get another opportunity to recruit.
